Babies: 9 - 12 Months

LO doesn't eat very much

I've noticed that DD doesn't eat very much. I'm not really sure what the proper amount is for a 10.5 month old to be eating. For lunch today I made her some homemade mac and cheese. I put 2 tablespoon fulls in front of her and she didn't even eat half. I'm concerned that once we take her off formula, she won't be gaining weight properly.

Re: LO doesn't eat very much

  • Things can change quickly.  They'll have good eating days and bad.  If it worries you, you could track the amounts for two weeks or so and bring it up to the pedi at your next appointment.  Also, if you give formula/BM before eating solids, she won't eat a lot of solids.

  • Mine LOs aren't big eaters either. Don't worry about moving off formula. Whole milk has about the same calories/fat, and their eating will pick up in time.
  • I am in the same boat, but my LO won't eat any table food yet.  We have tried purees and BLW.  She also is low feeding with her BM (up to about 20 oz a day now, but was averaging 12-15).  Ped isn't worried and said they will get it in time.  I am checking to see if she has EoE, as I suspect some family members have this, and as I checked websites, one mom wrote that her daughter had EoE, and wouldn't eat any foods, so she had her on BM only and she was 3!  Not sure if that is healthy, but her doc said to do it.  So, I think if they don't eat too much at this stage, not to fret (I am also trying not to fret!) and hopefully it will kick in pretty soon!
