We just swtiched dd over to her convertible and she looks sooo much more comfy. I was thinking that for shopping we would just use the Ergo carrier and be ok without the bucket. However, I didn't think through restaurants. What do you do with dc while you eat? Do you just take your stroller in with you? DD is not sitting well enough to use a highchair yet.

Re: Anyone already in a convertible carseat?
We're thinking DS might be ready for the convertible also (he's 4.5 mos) because he squirms so much now when we put him in the infant car seat. I was wondering the same thing about restaurants, etc. when he can't sit up on his own yet and my SIL suggested we could just take the infant car seat with us when we're going places he may need somewhere to sit. Seems like kind of a hassle so I'm hoping DS will just chill until he can sit on his own and then we'll switch to the convertible, but if we don't make it that long, we'll probably go with SIL's suggestion.
These babies will be sitting up before we know it! DD1 was sitting up solo at 6 months. Maybe a week or two after that. You could bring something to prop LO with in a high chair for extra stability, like a towel. We have a clip on high chair for when we went out to eat. Can't wait til we can use that with Kelsey!

LO's are growing so fast!!
We have been in the convertible car seat since DS was 3 months. He is too heavy to carry in the bucket seat. For restaurants, we just take turns holding him in our laps.
Although, there have been times we put him across the table while he naps. I'm not holding 20 pounds of sleeping dead weight ;-)
My DH was annoyed that I wanted to switch with less than 5 mos use out of our infant seat. She is nowhere near our limit but she is so uncomfortable and cries when we put her in the bucket. She is much happier in her convertible.

When I really think about it we were already doing this anyway. Dd had no patience for sitting in the bucket so I always ended up holding her anyway!

Omg yes they are growing like crazy! I did a side by side comparison of dd during her 1st bath and dd now. It is crazy how much she has grown!
Ill have to look into that seat! Thanks!

My infant carrier goes to 35 pounds and it is a HEAVY SUCKER!!!!!
I want to put him in a convertible sooner than later, but don't want to have to lug him around quite yet without it since he can't sit up yet.
DH and I were JUST talking about this! DD is 26 inches and her carrier seat is only rated to 28. She's only 14 lbs 6 oz so we're fine with weight, though. She's growing like a weed (DH is 6'5") and I'm totally unsure how quick she'll get to 28". However, she's another one who isn't a fan of being in her carrier seat. Sure she falls asleep in it while driving around, but once we've stopped or are in the house, she wants OUT! I'm not as concerned about restaurants because we're crazy lucky and DD can sit up already. We've got an Inglesina Fast hook on chair that works well.
I had looked at a few convertible seats back while still prego but haven't taken a peep since. Anyone really like theirs? We'll have to get one for our Subaru Legacy (a sedan like the Honda Accord) and one for the farm truck (in the backseat), so hoping to find one that doesn't have an enormous footprint. TIA for recommendations!
We narrowed it down to the Diono Radian RXT and the maxi-cosi pria. We bought the radian but it takes up a lot of room while rear facing. I liked that it had a steel frame, highest rear facing weight limit and was crash tested at higher speeds than required. It also accommodates fairly tall children (dd is currently 90% in height) and it can be used as a booster! The pria is suppose to not be too big of a footprint because it reclines inside it's shell making it take up less room rear facing. If you are on FB there is a group called carseats for the littles. There are several carseat techs on there. If you tell them your cars and your dc's build, they will give you recommendations to explore. They gave us 5 suggestions and I narrowed down from there. Otherwise there are forums on carseat-data.org but I found that hard to use.
