I don't need them yet, but I am a planner.
Luckily, I can wear jeans to work most days, but will need a few pants, too. Dresses and skirts are not an option (I work at a manufacturing plant).
I usually live in Old Navy jeans (cheap and I don't care if I get gunk on them at work). However, I wear a 20 regular there and they stop maternity sizes at 18. Grr....
Any thoughts / suggestions? And to make things more challenging, I need a 32+ inch inseam (the joys of being 5'10").....
Re: Plus size maternity clothes?
You can also look at getting an extender which should allow for growth and still let you wear your usual clothing. And... tummy sleeves, which Motherhood Maternity also makes in a plus size.
All the maternity clothes I have, I bought from Motherhood. It is the only store I found where the plus-sized clothes are there in the store (albeit an exceptionally small selection compared to the rest of the store - uncool). I am notorious for buying stuff online, trying it on, finding it doesn't fit properly, then never sending it back. What a giant waste of money. So, Motherhood was it for me, because everything else (that I could find) was online-only.
JC Penney seems to have some decent stuff, but I never got around to ordering and I guess that's just as well. I was lucky enough to have a crapload of fat(ter) clothes that have kept me going pretty much throughout pregnancy, supplemented by just 2 pairs of mat pants (one work, one cas) and a couple of tops. I am petite, and the pants that I bought had to be taken up about a thousand inches, so you should be good on the inseams ...
Oh and the belly band is a huge hassle, but it does help when the old rubber-band-in-the-buttonhole thing starts to get old. I have used mine probably less than a dozen times in the past 4 months, because I find that it rides up on the butt side (I am extra blessed back there) and also I find it annoying that I can't get to my pockets.
Happy shopping!
Hmmm...we might be body twins! I am not looking forward to maternity clothes this time around. I never lost all the weight from #2 so I am nervous that those maternity clothes won't last very long.
I do sew so I am thinking of trying the tutorials I have seen where you cut off the top of your jeans and add the stretchy panel.
I had good luck a JCP last time around, but the inseam was just over 32" so I could never put them in the dryer. Have you tried Sears?
I am plus size and short (5'2") so I have a similar but opposite problem. I love the Old Navy shirts I buy 2x and they work well, but they are more "summery" and thin quality. Thankfully I work from home so I don't need a full wardrobe.
I love the plus-sized jeans from Motherhood as they do come in Petite and hardlu anyone makes plus pants in petite.
You might try the Tall jeans at Motherhood in an XL. I think that is more of a 16-18 size, but I have found I really need a smaller size in maternity pants since the stretchy panel takes care of my already fat belly! I normally wear a 22 in pants and the regular XL jeans at Motherhood are only a tiny bit too snug in the thighs.
Boot cut might might work well for you
I was a plus size 18 before pregnancy, and Old Navy's XXL maternity stuff fits me fine - sometimes roomily. I have a few pairs of shorts from Motherhood (size 1X works there and sometimes 2X depending on cut) and a couple of shirts. But mostly, I've been making it through in "normal" clothes. I have a lot of empire waist dresses, maxi dresses, halters, strapless - they all still work fine - even at 31+ weeks pregnant. I really recommend Rachel Pally as a designer. You can wear her stuff pregnant or not - and it looks great both ways.
I'm just not into owning cheap clothes, so I've tried to keep my maternity clothes-only buying to a minimum. I have 3 dresses from Old Navy, and I think 3 pairs of shorts from Motherhood, and 2 shirts from Motherhood. It's plenty. My regular wardrobe actually looks better in most cases.
