2nd Trimester

23 weeks and haven't felt movement

Hi everyone! I am 23 weeks along and still haven't felt baby girl move. I have looked online and of course have seen what others have posted in the past. I keep trying to tell myself that I have felt her and just haven't realized that it's her yet or that my placenta is anterior and that is why. At my last u/s, she didn't want to move much, other than her arms. Her heartbeat was normal, so that gives me some comfort, but I still can't help but worry. Is anyone else in the same boat or has been with previous pregnancies? Just need to know that I'm not alone or crazy.

Re: 23 weeks and haven't felt movement

  • I had a confirmed anterior placenta with DS, so I didn't feel him move until 21-22 weeks. The first time was very sporadic. It wasn't like I felt him move once, and then continuously felt him move.

Have you spoken with your doctor about this? It may be something that they want to check out, or you may just have to wait. I'd still get advice from your doctor and see when he/she wants you to really be feeling the movement.

  • I agree that if the heartbeat is normal you've probably felt her and just not realized it.  In a few more weeks I bet you won't be able to deny the movements.  Hang in there!

  • I have an anterior placenta, too, and I just recently started feeling him move on a regular basis.  He's really active, so if yours is more laid back then I'm not surprised you're not feeling anything.  You're not crazy!  I felt the same way until I could feel movement.

  • I'll be 22 weeks on Wednesday and because of an anterior placenta.. I haven't felt anything either.

If it's something that's causing you worry or if you really don't know whether you have an anterior placenta or not - I would just call your doctor and ask. I know I was awfully worried before the ultrasound tech confirmed that my placenta was indeed in front!

  • Is your placenta anterior (in the front)?

Mine was anterior and I don't think I felt my DD until about 22 or 23 weeks.

  • My SIL just had a beautiful and totally healthy baby boy last week and she mentioned to me on Saturday that she didn't feel him move till 26 weeks.  She was worried at the time, but the Dr assured her everything was fine. And, it was!

  • I am in the exact same boat as you! I am 22w4d and haven't felt movement (that I know of). I am also very worried but, have talked to others that haven't felt movement until later. At my 18w a/s I was told I have Placenta Previa. Not sure if that means that I also have an Anterior Placenta or if it moved that way since. I asked my dr. at my 20 week appt. and she said to hang in there that it would happen soon. I hope we both feel movement soon!

Hang in there! You are not alone.

  • Hi - I do not have an AP, however, i felt some very light movements between 21-22 weeks - almost like muscle twitches - they were not consistent.  Once I hit the end of the 23rd week and into the 24th week, I have movement has become more prominent.  I think baby was moving, just not in a way i would feel her too much.

I found that if i went home after work and laid down for 30 minutes or so she would start to kick and that would give me an opportunity to see and feel her a little bit better.  Hang in there, if anything I have learned all pregnancies are different and you may feel movement later than others....
