I received an e-mail today from my university, saying that there were changes in my financial aid, and only stated that my financial aid was reduced and I needed to accept these changes.
When I looked, it didn't list exactly what the changes were, so I compared my award summary to the previous quarters. I've lost $2,775 from my Federal Pell Grant, and I have absolutely no idea why. Nothing has changed on my FAFSA from the last filing to the current filing. I know that there has to be an average of a 2.0 GPA to maintain a Federal Pell Grant, but my GPA is 3.7 so that doesn't make sense. The financial aid office is closed, so I'll have to call back tomorrow, but WTF? Has anyone dealt with this or have any idea what could possibly be going on?
TIA.
Re: NBR: I REALLY don't get this.
Wow. that really sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. I have not been through this particular situation with federal pell grants but have had a many # of problems with student loans...i wont even go there. But if nothing has changed, i really dont understand why there is such a huge difference! I would def call when you get the chance to try to straighten that out. Higher education is expensive as it is...its no wonder people cant afford to go to school anymore. So happy i am done with college!
Good luck to you! I hope that there was just a mix-up!
I don't know if they would cut it for taking MORE? Financial aid makes my head spin in general, and I've never had a problem before. I usually take 12-13 credit hours per quarter, but we're on semesters now and I'm taking 18 credit hours, which is still the maximum I am allowed to take without approval from my major department.
Thanks for the insight though. Bah! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
IKR? I am already going to pay out of my ass for pretty much the rest of my life in student loans, and every grant adds up. Sure, it was only $2,775 for that semester but then I think, that's $2,775 that I didn't even have to pay back.
Hoping it was a mix up too. Thank you!
I work in Financial Aid. You can PM me if you want. We are pretty swamped today but I'll try to check my messages throughout the day. The only things I can think of off hand would be that you've hit your lifetime max on your Pell (govt made that change this year), or that you have taken too many hours at your school (attempted 150% of the hours required to graduate from your program), or you have fallen behind in the amount of hours you have to pass compared with the number of hours you have attempted. Did you submit tax transcripts and a verfication form? If so, they may have had to make corrections to your FAFSA to reflect the correct income information.
You can call FAFSA at 1-800-4-FED-AID and they may can tell you what the problem is or what corrections were made to your FAFSA, if any.
