January 2012 Moms

Sophie?

Those of you who have Sophie the giraffe, why does your lo like it? I hear that people think its amazing.

Also I read some reviews of kids chocking on the legs. Anyone experience this?

TIA

Re: Sophie?

  • My mom just bought the Sophie teething ring for DS. It's got two loops on it with different surfaces (ridged and studded) for different teething issues (erupting teeth vs sore gums). No legs to choke on either like with the regular Sophie.

  • It's much softer than other teethers, and has all sorts of angles for her to gnaw on. No choking yet and she's been obsessed for months. We also got the small one PP mentioned. That was a hit as well.

  • I love Sophie. I give it as a gift often. My girls have really started to like it recently. It is perfect for their little hands to grab on. They will chew on the ears and face. They like to wave it around if they hit themselves, it doesn't hurt. I hate the squeaky part of it, but the thing keeps them entertained. I haven't had any problems with choking.

  • DS loves his Sophie (whom we've nicknamed Wheezy since his squeaker broke).

It's really impossible to choke on the legs unless he chewed them off...which isn't gonna happen. He may gag occasionally from sticking them in to far, but he pulls them out and has quickly learned how far they can go in :)

  • Our daughter is a big fan of Sophie. Soft to chew with a lot of different shapes/textures to experience. Easy to grab, pass from hand to hand, etc. Plus she can make it squeak all by herself, which makes her very excited indeed.

  • I broke down and bought the Sophie. She's not absolutely obsessed, she seems to like all her toys equally. But she loves the squeaker and she likes to smack it on stuff to make it squeak. She also chews the ears and feet. No choking issues here.

  • I bought one when my DS was little, he didn't care too much for it.  But my DD loves it!  It is her favorite toy.  So just depends on the LO I think.  She doesn't choke on the legs, doesn't have any problem at all.

  • My LO could take it or leave it when it comes to Sophie. Our Sophie has also become a "wheezy." He will occasionally gag if he shoves the legs too far in his mouth, but nothing to be concerned about.

He would much rather chew on a cold washcloth!

  • We bought Sophie for DS and it was just okay for him. He like playing with it but not really as a teether. I didn't quite get the big deal except it was cute and natural rubber.

DD is Sophie-addicted. It's her favorite thing ever. She chews/slobbers on her nonstop. I just keep her in the diaper bag for when we're out, so she's "new" and she works wonders.

My kids have never gagged on the legs.

  • I showed DD a Sophie at a friend's, but she much prefers her teether we dubbed "that guy," because we can't figure out what he is (a frog with ears? an alien? a green bear?).

This except DS gives a gross look when he attempts to bite it. He uses other teethers way more.

  • DD likes her Sophie okay, but LOVES this https://www.amazon.com/Under-The-Nile-Green-Bean/dp/B000G1BUE8. She's never choked on either.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think we're going to give her a try. I have a 20% off coupon for BRU so that will come in handy. I think the squeaker will be interesting for the dogs. I guess we'll have to see how that plays out :)

FYI I have heard of many a Sophie suffering death by dog.  It looks and sounds like one of their chew toys.

DD loves Sophie.  Chewing on her as we speak.

  • My son loves Soph.  Chews on her every day, rolls across the living room to get to her.

One thing to watch, my friends little guy almost choked on pieces of Sophie when they left her in a hot car and he started chewing on it and big chunks were coming off.  Luckily she noticed and was able to dispose of her before anything tragic happened!
