febrile seizure?

(re-posted from  toddlers:24 months+ board)

Hello!  I'm new to this board, but I was wondering if anyone here has experience with febrile seizures (sometimes called fever seizures).  My almost 3 year-old daughter had what the doctor believes to be a febrile seizure at daycare two days ago.  She has a follow up EEG scheduled in a few weeks to rule out any other causes.

My understanding is that febrile seizures are relatively common, and the child will outgrow them by age 6 and may never have a seizure again. Does anyone else have experience with seizures in a small child (febrile or otherwise)?  I'll be nervous util the EEG, and I'm trying not to turn to Dr. Google...

 Thanks!

Re: febrile seizure?

  • I don't have personal experience with febrile seizures, but my DS had seizures after birth, so I can imagine how terrifying this must be for you.  I would try not to worry, and don't google!!  Hopefully the EEG will give you peace of mind and she will not have any more seizures.  If she does, there are really effective treatments and ways to deal with this.  I work with a lawyer who had seizures all through her young childhood, outgrew them and has no ill effects.

    Hang in there mama!

  • No seizures here, but we have had an EEG. (It's a special kind of Mommy Hell)

Go to the FAQ section at the top of this board. There are a lot of great tips in the EEG section. Good Luck!
