Playtime ideas

How are you playing with LO these days? I have hit a rut, so our playtime has gotten boring. I'm looking at my list of activities, but I need some fresh inspiration...

I think I might let her get messy with some jello later today. I saw an idea where you make jello in a container with plastic snakes or other toys in it. I think the big kids would enjoy that, too. (And then straight to the bath afterwards!)

Re: Playtime ideas

  • At DC the teachers let LO finger paint.  They send home his art peices and it is pretty cute.  They also do sponge painting and give LO items to glue on a sheet of paper.

Also as the SAHM board I am sure they are full of ideas.

  • SD and I made a tent house for C last week.  He loved it!  Then another day, we pulled all the couch and chair cushions down and piled them up for him to climb and play.  He had a blast falling and jumping in the cushions!

Also, he's finally picked up scribbling, so I've been letting him sit in the HC and "color" while I cook.

Sometimes I do "theme" time.  I'll put away all of his toys except the farm animals and we'll practice animal sounds and creative farm play, or only get out puzzles (including shape sorter), or only cars and trains, or only instruments.  (I got that idea from daycare-  they do "square day" etc).

  • I read recently that you don't need that many toys out at a time if you rotate them.  Even moving them from room to room helps keep them 'new' for LO.  One of my goals this week is to sort her toys into 4 or 5 bins and then only have one out for a few days at a time.

I tried finger paint a few weeks ago. It was fun, but she was much more interested in painting her body (or mine!) than the paper. I don't mind getting messy though.

  • Whoops, duplicate...

Oh, I love these ideas. M loved the blanket fort we made; I bet she'd love the couch cushion fort!

M does the scribbling motion, but she doesn't get the pressure to actually color. Something to work on... Thanks! :)

We switch up toys all the time!  I have 2 bins in the office (it's gated because the litter box is there as well) that I keep everything in, and 2 smaller baskets in the living room and one downstairs that I filter toys in and out of.  We actually haven't even started using more than 3 toys from his birthday!  He found something from Christmas the other day that is his favorite right now because to him it's new!

YW :)  He loved those couch cushions, lol.   He also had a blast the day I left the air mattress blown up in the living room.

On the coloring, he's not great at the pressure, but you can see it.  I have those toddler markers, too.  those show up great even without any pressure.  And he would play all day with his bath crayons.
