Does anyone have a storkcraft or shermag glider??

I have been waiting for weeks for the white Shermag glider chair that I want, to come into stock at BRU. I am getting so impatient, so in the meantime I was looking at Storkcraft gliders which are less expensive, but actually seem to have slightly better reviews despite it looking much smaller and not a comfortable (these are online only so its a guessing game).  I originally liked the Shermag because it has a higher back and seems more plush (I sat on it in store). I was wondering if anyone has experience with either chair that could help me make a decision.  I'm due in 5 weeks and waiting possibly 3 more weeks for the Shermag chair is driving me insane, but if its worth it, then I guess I can deal with it.  HELP PLEASE! TIA

Re: Does anyone have a storkcraft or shermag glider??

  • DH and I bought a Storkcraft glider for our nursery.  Obviously it hasn't gotten much use yet, but from what we've experienced, we like it a lot.  Especially given what we paid for it.  ($129 from Amazon)  We did not try a bunch of others though, only the ones on display at our BRU, and I don't remember what brands those were.

FWIW, it has been plenty comfortable while I sat and watched DH hang the nursery mobile and do other labor-intensive decorating things.  I put a snuggly throw blanket I got at my shower over the top, and it's great as a cushy head rest.  I would recommend it so far.  It seemed to get great reviews from Amazon and other websites also.

If you'll excuse the crappy cell phone pic and dark room, this is what it looks like in our nursery, sans blanket.  I also put a throw pillow there, which makes it extra comfy on my back. :)

  • I received a Storkcraft Hoop Glider as a gift.  H put it together yesterday. I sat in it off and on for about 6 hours yesterday while we were working on things and I had no trouble with it at all.  I was concerned about the comfort, but my back still felt great at the end of the day, which it usually doesn't.  I'm really liking it so far with my admittedly limited experience.

  • I have a Storkcraft glider. I've not used it a ton yet, but it's really comfortable and has a smooth glide. I'm short so I actually sort of prefer the lower back on the SC...it hits the back of my head at a nice place so I can lean my head back comfortably. And plus, it looks nice with my Storkcraft crib. • For whatever reason, I read the title as "does anyone have a Stork or a Sugar Glider?"    I was somewhat disappointed to open this thread to find people talking about chairs.   Clearly, I need a nap.  lol

This does look great in your nursery... I am short too, only 5'2" , but I was thinking in terms of DH, but its not like he would be breastfeeding so that shouldn't really matter right? lol.  The butt cushion looks kind of thin?? What do you think about your bumm comfort? Also, they don't have one with white wood, do you think it matters if all my nursery furniture is white?? Is it easy to move to another room if you feel like it? Sorry for all my questions.

Thanks! It's suuuper easy to move.  I've moved it (the chair and ottoman) by myself all over the room about a hundred times.  I am fairly short (~5'3"), and like BV said, it hits my head in just the right spot to be comfy.  The butt cushion is a tad thin, but that being said, it would be pretty easy to replace if you wanted to, though I have not experienced any discomfort from it being a little cheap.   All in all, it's pretty comfortable. As for the furniture, I love espresso with white, so I've got some white in the room here and there, and I think it looks great.  The chair cushion is really a great light neutral color too, so I think it would look nice.  I have all my espresso furniture on a white shag rug and, IMO, it's awesome. I can't remember if DH has sat in it yet or not.  It is quite possible I have been monopolizing the nursery chair. :-P  I'm not sure how tall your DH is, but mine is ~5'10-11, and I'll ask him to take a seat tonight so he can weigh in.

  • My Dh is 6 foot. I have to say you ladies are definitely making me lean towards cancelling the other chair and going with this one... I have enough in gift cards to get the more expensive one, but I also do still need a few more things for baby like swaddle blankets and such... Now I think I just want to order this one! AHH.. I drive myself insane because I am sooo damn indecisive!

  • I have the Shermag oak glider and ottoman and ohhh wow!  It's worth the extra money (especially if you can get it on sale like we did).  I've already fallen asleep in it a few times.

  • We bought a Shermag beige/expresso multi-position w/ locking feature glider and it's super comfy :)  I am 5'3" and my DH is 6' and we both love it.......it's not very wide but we are not wide people so we fit in it fine.
  • I have the StorkCraft Hoop Glider in white with green cushions (got it from Wayfair.com w/free shipping for about $163)  Wal-mart.com also had the white color when I ordered mine about two weeks ago.  I am really happy with it especially for the price!  I keep going in the nursery to test it out and find it really comfortable.  My DH and FIL (both average size guys) have sat it in and found it comfortable.  That being said, I don't know that I'll be falling asleep in it anytime soon but I also didn't want to spend a ton of money on a glider that I'll have no use for in a couple years.  The seat cushion is a little thin but not uncomfortably so and I figure I can replace it with a heavier foam cushion from the fabric store if I feel like I need to after using it for a while.

  • Well it seems pretty 50/50 so I am just going to have to make a decision! lol I'm now thinking I might hold out for the original shermag one that I sat in at the store, only because I know I liked it a lot... we will see :) Thanks so much for all the input though it really did help :)

  • I ordered my Shermag with custom fabric and it took a LONG time to get in too 8 weeks, I think. It wasn't even here when Jack was born! So I improvised-nursed in bed at night since he was sleeping in our room anyways; nursed on my couch during the day since we were hanging out there anyways. I wouldn't stress if it's not in yet. If you like it then don't cancel the order.

When it finally came it was nice to have another place to feed him, especially when he was actually sleeping in his crib in the nursery.

  • We have a Shermag glider & ottoman & love it. It's gotten a ton of use since DS was born & we'll be using it for DD, too. It's very comfortable, easy to get in & out of, and has held up great. It's very good quality. hth
