I'm going to say after 4. I do allow my LO(3) to watch it in our room while we sleep for a few* more mintues. She usually wants one of us to go downstairs with her and watch it. If your LO has a tv in their room, put a movie on.
My 3yo is only now becoming independent enough to watch shows on the iPad alone when she wakes up w/o asking us first. She would probably turn on the TV if she could reach it (hangs on wall) or knew how to operate the remote. I can hear her when she wakes up but think it's lovely she's allowing us to sleep in a little longer. It's usually 30 min or less before she wakes us saying she's hungry.
It's a personal preference for adults and comfort level on kids, but I do enjoy DD being considerate and independent.

Quick question..how do you celebrate your girls b-day being so close? Do you combine them?? Just thinking in case this happens to us (ttgp)...
DS gets up, dressed, and gets himself breakfast now. He just has to let me know that he's awake before he does it. He has been doing it for a good six months or so? He did it on his own one morning, so I reorganized the closet so that he didn't have to climb the shelves for cereal and said go for it.

This is what I was thinking with DD#1. She likes Cheerios and Craisins with her milk in the morning and we let her watch a show, play her Leapster or read books. I am thinking if we have it already made and in the fridge (which she can help herself to as well) and designate what she can do in the a.m., then we could get another 30-40 minutes at least...or, like today when she's up at 5:30, we can get a little longer than that. Although I am sure that she won't let us...but its days like today that make me think of my original question - I LOATHE getting up before 6:00 (I am a SAHM, I shouldn't have to and my 1 year old doesn't get up until 6:30-7:00! LOL).

If I can butt-in here since both my girls are July. This year was the first year with both birthdays and we DID combine. It made life a lot easier and, for us, it is going to be easier for now especially since their birthdays are in the summer...EVERYONE IS ON VACATION. So, it makes it easier on us and friends and family to make the time for one bday. I am sure that once they are much older and have their own school friends they will want separate parties, but we'll stick with this as long as we can.

This yr the party was only for the 3 yo. We will combine them in the future. When they're old enough to want separate parties we will allow sleepovers on diffn't days. Having a combo party will definitely save us money!

For me it all depends on the kids and their personalities. My older DD (now 6) has not really ever had an issue getting up out of bed on her own and will go potty and such in the middle of the night and has been doing this since she was around 4 1/2. DD#2 is just about 4 1/2 and still is unsure about getting out of bed on her own. While I totally trust her to do it, she still gets nervous. Personally for me, we only let the kids watch TV on the weekends and DH is with them when they turn the TV on and then typically snuggles on the couch with them and falls back asleep for a bit sometimes. Yes, my 6 year old can turn on the TV on herself so she doesn't need DH there but for now, we still want to make sure we know what they are watching and stuff like that. I am guessing that sometime in the next year (she is in kindergarten), I will feel more comfortable with her doing it on her own. She does get up on her own during the week and gets herself dressed and ready for school/camp and we are working on her making her own lunches and stuff like that.
Well, my 6 yo doesn't know how to turn on our whole TV system by herself. (My MIL still can't figure it out after being shown how.) At 3 yo I would turn on the TV for her and go back to sleep on the couch downstairs.

We still have a childproof knob on the inside of DDs door, so they can't leave their room, but they have been getting up and playing independently on Saturday mornings for quite a while. We have little potties in there so they can get up and pee. Then they just read or play or whatever they do. Often times when I finally do go in there I get "Go away Mom, we're still playing". This weekend they woke up around 6:45 and wanted me to cover them back up. I did, but they wanted the light left on. I went back to sleep and didn't wake up until 8:40 or so. I don't know if they went back to sleep at all or if they were just playing for that entire time. (There was a big stack of books out, so they may have been "reading" quite a bit.)
