Rash wont seem to go away

DS has this awful rash all over his private area and now seems to be spreading down his leg a bit. We saw the dr on monday, he said its a yeast/fungal rash so he prescribed nystatin. Its been over 48 hrs since starting to use it and there is no improvement and spreading more to legs. Any ideas? I plan to call in the am. He already has a milk allergy, I am wondering if its allergy related to something he is eating. Thanks!!

Re: Rash wont seem to go away

  • I fought a rash with DD for months and was also prescribed nystatin.  I found that it irritated the rash more.  The only thing that worked to heal the open rash was neosporin ( doctor recommended it)  once the rash started to heal with the neosporin i used a & d with every change.  Lots of diaper free time helps as well as baths.  If your DS eats, drinks alot of fruit or juices it could be making his urine stronger and more irritable to his skin.  Goodluck!

  • DS had a fungal rash a while back, and the doctor had me use lotrimin instead of nystatin.  I applied it 3x daily underneath his normal diaper cream, and it went away within a few days.  Hope things improve; rashes are no fun!

  • My pedi had me mix equal parts lotramin, hydrocortisone, and desitin for DD's yeast infection a couple months ago and it work instantly. (I'm taking between diaper changes) Now we keep tubes of each handy in case we need to make more.
  • go to Walgreens and asked for Calmoseptine.  Works like a charm!

  • DD had a yeast rash too and it turned into a "super infection" on her skin per the pedi. We had to have antibiotics. We fought that rash for two months.
