So it was better than expected (NBR)

On Friday, I posted about how I was practically sick at the thought of having to meet my father's wife: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/67800063.aspx

It all went better than expected. She's actually nice, although part of me still shudders to say that since it's not like I plan to hang out with her all the time now. Between DH, DS and my brother, there were enough buffers that we didn't have to get into any deep conversations over breakfast. I still can't ever envision how I'd put her and my mother in the same room for any type of family gathering, but baby steps, I suppose. We went from their house to my mom's, and I was just waiting for DS to start talking about his new friend, but thankfully, he didn't mention her, so that was one less stressor too.

You know what I think would be great, in an ideal world? If divorced parents never shared any of their crap with their kids. Then there wouldn't be grown children who had to worry about making peace with weird family dynamics.

    Glad to hear it went better than you thought.  And that she was nice.  You don't have to figure out how to fit her into family functions overnight - if ever - but you're right - baby steps.  Hopefully you'll be able to have a better relationship with your dad because of this too.  :)

    I am glad it went better than expected. I get "noshes" at the thought of my stepmonster and her "new guy". It totally grosses me out & I am sure it has my daddy rolling over in his grave. I agree, we shouldn't have to deal with it.

    Glad it all worked out!  My father has been married to his wife for a little over 11 years and I have seen her once! She is way too needy for me!

    I hope. I just feel like there was so much stress and drama for so long that I'm ready to embrace a new chapter of life.
