DH has been out of town for a guys' weekend and I invited my parents to stay with Em and I so I would have someone to watch her while I spent the day at the lake with the ladies from church yesterday (and so my mom would whine a little less when MIL watches Em for a few days while we're gone in October). Well, they're making more of a mess than Emma ever does!
They rearranged a couple pieces of furniture in my living room so they could play on their laptop and see the TV. Our internet has been crappy lately and my mom has been very vocal about how frustrating it is that she can't harvest her Farmville crops. (Really?!?!) They leave half used water bottles in the fridge. They completely rearranged my fridge! We have a pretty decent amount of counter space and they somehow managed to take up every square inch. While they were watching Emma yesterday, they let her feed herself raspberry jello (!! at least it was sugar free) but she got it all over a shirt that is being borrowed from a cousin and they did NOTHING about the stain, just left the shirt hanging over the back of her high chair. And then I guess the jello also stained Em's legs and belly and they put her to bed like that! I haven't seen it yet because she's still in bed... And the real topper was when I got home last night and it was strangely hot in the house, with the A/C running much lower than we usually set it at. Long story short, they had our attic fan on upstairs and it was sucking ALL the cool air straight out of the house through our roof!! After we've talked many times about how the attic fan works! So who knows how long that wonderful act of energy efficiency was going on yesterday.
And the really baffling thing is that this isn't like them at all! They've stayed here many other times and never done any of these things. Maybe they just feel more at home with DH being away but they're not even like this at home. If something gets stained, my mom freaks and treats it immediately! I mean, I'm glad they were able to come and visit, Emma has had a blast with them. And I got to have a relaxing day at the lake. But I never thought I'd be looking forward to cleaning up after my husband more than my parents!
