Plate?

Currently I just put everything on DD's highchair tray. Anyone using a plate? Right now, I'm pretty confident that DD would take that plate and chuck it on the floor in 2 seconds! At what point should we be working on that?

Re: Plate?

  • DD has plates but I usually take the food from her plate and put it on her tray.  She has a tray with a top piece that comes off so it makes it easy to clean.

MIL wanted to buy DD a plate that has a suction cup on the bottom so she can't throw it....  I told her no thank you, it's easy to clean her tray.

Plus half the time she just moves food from one place to another so I'm sure food wouldn't stay on there long.

I would think in the next 6 months or so it should get easy (I hope) to get her to use a plate.

  • I just started to get dd used to a plate and the main reason was that it was very hard to feed her at restaurants because I don't really want her eatin off their tables sometimes. At first she dumped the plate it actually only took her a few days to figure out not to throw it or dump it. So surprisingly easier than I thought. She does get food all over her tray sometimes when she is eating but it's not really too bad. I'd start her with a plate and see what happens.
  • We give N a plate and he does pretty well with it now.  At first he would try and pitch it right away but he doesn't anymore.  Just when he's getting full or doesn't want any more.  It actually didn't take that long before he stopped trying to pick it up right away.

  • We've always used a plate. When she is out of food or is no longer interested, she turns the plate over. That's unfortunately our cue right now that she's done.

  • I've given DS a plate a few times and he did a lot better than I expected. I figure he should be using a plate all the time by 18 months.

  • We use a plate and he does pretty well with it. Like others have said he will flip it over when he's done but it's usually empty by that time.

  • SometimeS. she will chunk it when done though.
  • Nope! She likes to dump everything off it and drop the plate on the floor.

  • I just put Em food on her tray. When I try to give her a plate, she picks it up.

  • Nope she will throw it on the floor everytime.
  • Plate=frisbee at our house.  He's getting so much better with a fork, though, I should probably try again.  He would probably stop throwing it if I actually presented him with a plate more often.
