It was a waste. DD went home in the hospital t-shirt as it was 100+ degrees outside and DS was admitted to the NICU. We were just trying to keep our sh*t together.
DS was in the NICU and we actually did have him wear his outfit home a week later.
The day DS came home and they were reunited - we put DD in her outfit and took pictures of them together again. They both smiled.
So my long and short of it - don't even stress about coming home outfits. For me, it was the last thing on my radar with a sick baby.
in my opinion, a going home outfit wasn't a huge deal. you can't even see anything when they are in their carseat. we just picked a cute outfit from their collection.
The brand Kissy, Kissy has just sweet, soft outfits. I don't know a single retailer (perhaps Nordstrom or Saks) that sells them but, plug it into your browser. Like I said, just plain, super soft sweet stuff. It's one of those that I wish the brand made "big kid" stuff. : )
ETA-after reading some of the posts above, I agree abt. going home outfits. BUT, do get one of the sweet Kissy, Kissy outfits in a size 0 to 3 or 6 to 9 months...they're awesome!!!! Every baby deserves at least one. : )

Re: Good places to look for boy/girl going home outfits?
We bought ours from Gymboree and their Brand New Baby line. Both were in the UpTo 7lbs size. My boy was 6lbs 5 oz. and my girl was 7lbs 12 oz.
