Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Does it get better? (please reassure me)

I'm lurking over from the 0-3 month board wondering if any of your LO's had colic. If they did when did you notice it get better or has it not gotten better yet?

My family keeps reassuring me that LO will grow out of this and be happy, but I'm scared she's just destined to be a miserable unhappy baby.  Crying

  • DS1 had colic and reflux and I thought he was never going to get any better. Once he started getting a little more mobile and able to play a little more, things were dramatically better. It will get better, I promise. Hang in there mama!

  • It DOES GET BETTER!!!! Both of my twins had colic, if you can imagine how horrendously awful that was.... But in the last month or so, it has all but disappeared. They still have occasional bouts of gas, but it's nothing like it used to be.

And now they smile ALL the time! They are really very happy babies now, and I remember feeling exactly like you did, thinking they would always be miserable.

Hang in there, you will see life get much easier very soon!

  • Thanks ladies, this makes me feel better. There's nights where I feel like a failure as a mother because of how unhappy she gets. Don't get me wrong she has her smiley moments, but unfortunately they're out numbered by the fussy/crying ones. So pretty much we're counting down the weeks until 3 months (that's when I'm told it starts to subside), 3 more to go!!
  • Our LO seemed to turn a corner this past week at the 12 week mark.

    Hang in there!

Thanks, that's what we're hoping to happen, 2 more weeks to go!

P.S.- We just got that onsie for our DD, I can't wait until she fits it!

  • I've refused to admit that DS had colic, but he was basically miserable and often screaming for most of his awake hours (and he fought naps, so the wasn't much breaks there). The past two weeks we've noticed a huge change. We used to have glimpses of this happy baby, but now he's here to stay. Of course, he still has his moments, for example today he was fairly fussy/cranky, but its nothing compared to what we dealt with. Most of the time now, he is happy and having fun!

  • My DS had colic and it was THE WORST thing ever.  We almost didn't have a second baby because it was so awful for us.  His went away literally overnight at 6 weeks.  It is supposed to peak at 6 weeks, so it should start getting better at that point.  There is an old wives tale that colic babies turn into really sweet, easy toddlers and that is SO true.  Once DS' colic ended he turned into the easiest baby and was a sweet toddler and even the terrible twos were a breeze.  Hang in there, and if all else fails take turns getting out of the house with your DH-one of you can stay with the crying baby while the other goes outside or for a walk or drive, then switch.  That helped us limp through those awful colic days.

  • L had colic and reflux. The colic went away around 8 weeks. We had a week or so were it was just a few nights a week of screaming, then it disappeared. We have a different baby now. Hang in there! I know how hard it is. Everyone kept telling me it would get easier and better...it did.
