Baby Names

Yay or Nay...

My husband absolutely loves the names Miles, and originally I was not a fan but it's growing on me.  Yesterday I mentioned this name to an acquaintance (to test it out) and she pretty much hated it.  So now I'm asking all of you- what do you think?

We have 2 kids at home Daniel and Lilah, and our angel baby in heaven- Annabelle.  I think Miles seems to go with the rest of our names and the middle name is going to be Ivan (EE-vahn).  It's my grandfather's name and is very sentimental.  Not my favorite if it was just purely a name I like, but because of the meaning it's sticking...

So it would be Miles Ivan Anderson (our last name is similar to this and does begin with an A)

TIA!

  • Miles gets a yay from me.

I'm sorry about the loss of precious Annabelle.

  • I love Miles! DH doesn't want to use it because the MN we will use is David, and he thinks it sounds too much like Miles Davis. Still, I love the name and think it goes well with your children's other names.

  • It's not a bad name but to me it doesn't really fit with the sib names which I consider more classic. I really like the middle name and the sentiment behind it, but Miles is more trendy to me than classic.

Here's a list of classic boy names if it helps.

  • I think Miles is a great name and goes well with Daniel and Lilah.

While Miles is currently at a high point in its popularity cycle (getting close to the top 100), it's a solid name with a long history. Think Myles Standish, the Mayflower passenger. Miles has only dropped out of the top 500 names in the US for about a decade (1960s-1970s), but it has usually been in the 200-300 range going back to the 1880s. In my book, that sort of solid popularity makes it more of a classic than Lilah, which is a perfectly fine name, but much more volatile in its trendiness.

  • Miles is the name we have chosen for our DS, so of course- LOVE IT!

DH and I always said we would name our DS Miles if we ever had one because it was my madien name (and my SN). We've joked about it for so long now, that nothing else fits Smile

It seems to be getting fairly popular now...

Wow, you really know your names!  Thank you for the info.

And thanks everyone for your opinions, it was just a bit of a downer to hear her say how much she disliked it.  (Which is the reason we aren't sharing names with people was actually care about!).  I'm not going to say we are 100% set on it (we always choose names last minute, and it's odd that we have a name so soon this time around), but I will be happy if this is the name we go with. :-)

  • I really like Miles with Lilah and Daniel. I'm just sucker for the letter 'L' in names, so I like how one name starts, one name ends and one name has it in the middle. It is not too obvious a theme as far as themes go.

  • It's just ok to me. I wouldn't vomit upon hearing someone else use it but wouldn't use it myself. I do think it sounds good with MN and LN.

This! It's my second favorite boy name...and it's a very close second.

  • MIles is getting a little too popular for my tastes.  But I love the name!  I named my dog that 11 years ago.  He's still kickin', so it's definitely out for my family.
