Sikh Temple shooting in MKE

I'm following the news on the Sikh Temple shooting that happened 2 hours ago just south of Milwaukee. I can't believe this is going on a 25 minute drive from me (not trying to make it all about me, just freaked out and so sad).

It is making its way around the news, but here is one report: https://www.jsonline.com/news/crime/reports-of-people-shot-at-sikh-temple-in-oak-creek-qc6cgc0-165059506.html

There's no way to know for sure how many are injured, I've seen reports of 1 gunman or 3, children safe and children taken hostage. Apparently 2 people have made it to the hospital so far, one is already in emergency surgery.

From the little I know of the Sikh faith, they are a peace loving and open community. And someone just walked in there this morning and started shooting.

So senseless. I live not too far from the Islamic Mosque that has been all over the news because of protesters and officials banning the building. I'm scared something like this will happen here when they finally get their permit for occupancy.  I will never understand religious intolerance.

  • That makes me ill. I cannot wrap my mind around how much hatred it takes to do something like that.

I'm in Milwaukee and we just heard that 3 people are in critical condition, one being a 20 year veteran police officer who took down the shooter. 7 people including the shooter are dead.

It's so sad that something so tragic and violent happens anywhere, let alone to such a peaceful religion.

  • It is so hard to put into words just how depressing this shooting is. No one should have to wonder if they are going to be randomly killed by another human being just because they're at a place of worship that is different from the majority in the area. I hope that makes sense... I just feel an overwhelming sadness for the victims and their families and for everyone who just wants to see a world where people accept one another despite our differences.
