With my first, DS, I wore him in the ring sling when he was fussy/colicky but not on a consistent basis. I also had a front carrier that I used for short outings once he got a little bit older.
With DD I've been using the sling around the house and even using it to nurse her in public or while typing/working. Yesterday, I wore her in the sling the entire time at the mall and she was so happy! My instinct now is to wear her as much as possible because she seems to be happier and she slept very well last night.
With that being said, I'm already receiving a lot of flack about breastfeeding so how do I deal with all of the questions about now constantly wearing my baby?
Re: New to baby wearing - questions
Well, it kind of depends on who is asking and what their tone is. I got a lot of "Isn't that neat!" or "I wish I had one of those!" from strangers when baby wearing (still do get some comments if I'm wearing him). And all I said to those was something about how yes, it's awesome.
If it's someone you know, the standard "It's working for us." is a good bet. How else to respond depends on how they're criticizing you. You could elaborate that meeting her need to be held and cuddled in the day time seems to help her sleep more soundly at night.
As for breastfeeding, again, it depends on the questions/flack. I'd probably just stick to "It's working for us" unless the person was a jerk. And then I'd start rattling off all the diseases that formula raises your baby's risk for (obesity, diabetes, several kinds of cancer, digestive tract infections, etc).

I'm a bit taken aback - people actually criticize for baby wearing? That is not something I was expecting to potentially have to deal with at all. Breastfeeding, cloth diapering, sure and already getting flack before baby is born, but baby wearing to the 'ignorant' person I think would seem convenient and easy as far as getting around with baby and therefore a pretty neat thing.
Guess I need to keep practicing my smile and nod.
