Will an ergo work for a 30 lbs 2.5 year old? And if I want to buy on ebay, what can I look for the prove authenticity?

Re: Ergo for 2.5 yo / buying on ebay?
I would think a KinderPack or Bamberoo in a Toddler or Preschool size would be a much better bet.
I was never a huge fan of the super puffy straps or the low back of the Ergo.
A KP or B'roo in T or Ps will come up much higher on Babe's back offering more support for both of you and a more comfy ride. If you buy used on TBW you can spend less and recoup most of the cost when you decide to sell. (and you don't have to worry about knock offs!)

I have never tried one, but I have heard great things about them. They go up to 50 lbs (I think), so your little man will be comfortable in it for a while.
I have a boba and really love it. My little guy is very big, and he still fits comfortably. I think the boba's are rated to 45 lbs.
Good luck and have fun shopping!!
I'd agree that there are better options if you are just buying for a toddler/preschooler. In addition to the Kinderpack, the toddler size O&A or toddler size Tula are easy to get your hands on (although Kinderpacks are often in stock now).
I would also NEVER buy an Ergo from anywhere but an authorized retailer or from someone who could show me proof of purchase from an authorized retailer. The fakes are getting very good and there are a ton of them out there. Ebay is full of them sadly.
