Diaper question

This is the first grandbaby and my grandma is so excited! She told me that she wants to take DH and I out to lunch today and then go to Walmart and buy diapers. What brand/size should we get?

Re: Diaper question

  • Newborn. Whatever brand. You have no idea how baby will react. We started with Pampers, since that's what they used in the hospital, and went to Target Up & Up from there.

  • I think it depends on how much she wants to buy.  If it is just one pack, then newborns.  If more than one, probably size 1.  Most babies grow out of newborns really quickly.  As for brand, it differs for each baby.  we have tried Huggies, Luvs, and Pampers, and only Pampers have really worked for us.  I would have liked to try a generic brand, but there are none where I live.

  • Pampers all the way!

I personally think with that mesh lining they have inside of the diaper kept baby dryer than any of the other brands.. especially during blowouts, it was easier to clean and we never had any leaks.

Once they get bigger, you'll figure out what works best for you.. we personally stuck with pampers the whole way, we loved the cruisers. I think Huggies made them smell like urine all the time. I think that pampers hid the smells better :P

  • No more than a couple of small packages of newborn and then a few of size 1 (DS only used the newborn size in the hospital, so less than a week!)

We tried pampers sensitive since it was the one used in the hospital but we liked Huggies pure and natural way better, and are still using those

  • I wouldn't buy more than 1 pack of newborn if you are having a shower. You may get as many newborn size as you need- and some hospitals give you newborn diapers to take home. I eneded up exchanging a couple packs of newborns for bigger sizes at Target.

Pampers are really great for the first few months, after that I didn't see a difference- and Huggies Pure & Natural worked really well for us.

  • Pampers were the best for our very sensitive little guy. Never had a leak. We tried using Huggies naturals one time and it got messy fast.

  • My sister will only use pampers on her new baby. Like PP said all babies may react differently. Huggies were not good for her baby, but I know some people that will only use huggies.

  • Thanks so much!

  • I personally like Pampers. And I would get size 1, nothing smaller. If you have a small baby the hospital will occommodating you with the correct size. This way you won't waste any diapers if your baby won't fit into newborn size.

  • As far as size goes, whatever you get, you will use at some point as the baby grows. Also, if you have a Walmart nearby, they will exchange diapers with out a receipt if you end up with too many of one size.

As for brand, that's going to depend on your baby. DD can pretty much wear anything and be fine. We now buy ShopRite brand diapers because they are cheap and they work for her. Try a variety at first and see what you like.

  • I wouldn't worry about brand.  We tried out a couple with DS, but ended up sticking with the pampers newborn for the 2 weeks he was in them and then through size 1.  When we moved to size 2 we found that Huggies worked the best for us.  So much depends on how your LO is shapped that I wouldn't commit to any one brand yet.  Also, unless you have a small baby, you won't be in the newborn size very long, so I wouldn't get too many!

  • I would say size 1 Pampers, if it were me.

We will have only one pack of Newborn size Pampers. My son didn't fit into them long, he was born at 8lbs 14oz. We didn't need more than one pack.

We liked the Pampers during the newborn stage because of the "wet detector" line on it that told us if he's peed, even just a little. It was hard to tell, being first time parents.

We will stock up on about two boxes of size 1 then three boxes each of size 2 and 3. We preferred Pampers until our son was mobile.

  • Were trying to stock up one 1's, 2's and 3's when I see sales. I always preferred Huggies.
