My girls rarely get fevers (thankfully:) so this is new territory for me. Camille (11 months) has had ~102.5* temp for the past three days. It comes down with Motrin and Tylenol. She has a slight runny nose. No other real symptoms. Maybe a decrease in appetite. She's an excellent eater normally. She's sleeping fine. If this continues, would you make an appt. with the pedi tomorrow?
Normally, my instinct would be to ride it out, especially bc it's managed with Tylenol... but I had lunch with a friend last week who was in a similar situation and when she finally took her dd in, she discovered she had a kidney infection and a UTI and she had to be hospitalized. (she is only 5 months and has really bad reflux; my friend said that had something to do with it...) I just don't want to be the mom that ignores this if it warrants a dr visit.
Any advice? Thanks!
ETA- it could be teething.. she only has two teeth and she's had them since Memorial weekend. But I don't see any bulging through...
Re: day three of 102* fever?
If my kid had a 102 degree fever, I would have taken him in 3 days ago. So yes, I would definitely make an appointment for tomorrow. You don't know if her ears hurt.
However, my LO has never had a fever with teething so perhaps 102 is normal- it seems really high to me though.
102 is high. Teething fevers usually don't get past 100.4. I would take your little one in. After all, the worst that could happen is the Pedi says no big deal...right?
I'd take her in. Anytime my girls ran a temp above 100 they had an ear infection. Since they've had 11 ear infections between the two of them, I just automatically take them in after a day or two of any kind of fever. There are almost always other clear signs it's their ears, though - screaming if laid on their backs, disrupted sleep, fussing at bottles/pacifiers because the pressure from sucking hurts their ears.
The runny nose and decreased appetite could be teething, but with a temp that high I'd suspect an ear infection or a virus. Roseola is a virus that causes a high temp for a few days, then once the fever breaks causes a rash. Hand, foot, and mouth causes a high temp and is going around right now, so watch for sores, too.

I would make an appt. Better for it to be nothing than to ignore it in this situation.
Hope she feels better!
Our dr. says LO needs to be seen after 3 days of temps above 100.4. If it's higher than 103, I'd take him to the ER if it were a weekend or night and we couldn't get into the pedi's.
