irritation in neck folds

there is a strong smell in my baby's neck folds. there is now a white substance and the skin is super irritated and raw. been cleaning with water but it is hard to keep the area dry when it is 90 out - so she gets sweaty even with a fan on her and wearing only a diaper

what should i put on her neck to help with healing and to keep it dry?

  • The white stuffis yeast.  We had the same issue and our ped said to wash it really well, dry it well and then apply athletes foot cream to kill the yeast.  We did this three times a day and it cleared up in about a week.  Now I wipe her neck out really well, dry it and apply Aquaphor and it hasn't come back.

  • I talked to the pedi about this and he said to use corn starch baby powder.
  • Watch when your baby spits-up.  You have to really wipe the neck, because the spit-up will get stuck in there and start to stink/become sore.

Make sure to clean well at every bath time too!

  • Almost every baby gets this one! Really try to wash it off with water and dry really well 3 times a day. Use baby powder to help keep it dry. If it doesnt get better after a few days see your dr. It can get a little fungal infection and would need a topical cream. I understand the heat thing... I live in FL. Poor kiddos get so sweaty!

  • I would check with the pedi because if it is yeast related, she may need a prescription.  The advice I got from our pedi for my girls was to keep cleaning, lift up the folds to wash and pat dry.  Apply Aquaphor which will help keep it dry and help heal the skin. It is important to do this often and after she eats or if there is alot of drooling. We were also told not to use powder or corn starch because that will help yeast grow.
