Cloth Diapering

Louis Vuitton diaper bag??? Crazy????

I don't have children, but my friend is pregnant and isn't very into the whole online forum chat thing... but I volunteered to do some research for her (actually her hubby) before she pops out her LO :)  Thanks in advance :)

My friend is due in December and she is thinking of buying a new Louis Vuitton bag to use as her Diaper Bag.  She probably owns 5 or 6 LV bags and she is obsessed.  I keep telling her, and her DH agrees, that this is a bad idea.  She plans on cloth diapering... but even still.... I keep thinking of spilled bottles, sticky fingers, dirty bibs and clothes.... and a $1500 bag!  Craziness.

Her only reservation is smell.

She plans on using a planetwise wet/dry bag (medium) to carry her diapers.  She has already accumulated a TON of BumGenius 4.0s from a cousin that ditched CDing.

So, let's imagine her child is 1 year old and there's 1 or 2 poopy diapers (waiting to be cleaned at home) and 1 or 2 pee diapers in her wet bag.  Will her purse eventually begin to smell?  Should she double up and ziploc each one then put them in the wetbag?  Or is the bag sufficient to contain smell so long as she washes the bag regularly and properly?  Should she spray her diapers before putting them in the wetbag to prevent a stench, and if so, what kind of spray?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Re: Louis Vuitton diaper bag??? Crazy????

  • If I could afford it I would love to have a never full in the gm size, but that's beside the point :)

I have a planet wise bag that I put dirty dipes in and I have never thought to double up. I even used it to hold sposies when I used them. It does a great job holding the stink in.  Granted I only have a newborn but my diaper bag doesn't stink and I've accidentally left dirty diapers in there over night. If you wanted the option to double up, I have a little bag dispenser clipped on my diaper bag that I got from target. It's made by munchkin and the bags smell really good too.

  • Loading the player...
  • My $25 diaperbag never smells...I don't imagine a $1400 one would either...a wetbag should be sufficient...no need to add other bags to it.  If that is what makes her happy and she has the money to do so, she should go for it...

  • What kind of child were you that you ruined your mom's diaper bag?

Wetbags contain the smell. That's what they do. I suggest you myob.

  • Smell is actually not that big of a deal with cloth diapering.  Many people think that sposies have a stronger smell.  At daycare, my LO has several dirty diapers sitting in a wetbag in a cupboard all day and it doesn't smell at all.  Many days I've noticed they don't even bother to zip the bag.  I've had a dirty diaper (rolled into a ball) fall out of an unzipped wetbag and roll around in my diaperbag for 2 days and STILL didn't notice the smell.

So she should be fine with a good quality wetbag.  I really like monkeyfootdesigns on etsy.

Also- I did have a bottle leak once in my diaperbag but its really no big deal.  I wouldn't say it gets any dirtier than a normal purse.  Less wear and tear actually.

Did I say that I ruined my mom's diaper bag?  No.  Is it impossible to have a leaky sippy cup, a leaky bottle, or a spilled container of food.  Spilling formula, juice, breast milk etc inside the interior of a suede lining of a $1500 bag would certainly compromise its value. MYOB? If you read the post I explained that her husband asked me to go on this forum and list the question for them because he doesn't care to create a user name for one question.  She agreed that that was a good idea.

How about you MYOB and keep your own mouth shut since you clearly lack the simple tact to answer an easy question.

Well in all fairness, you did not "explain" that you were asking us at her husbands request. It just sounds like you're more worried about it than they are.

This. Your post title and post text give a strong impression that you disagree with the choice to spend $1400 on a diaper bag. This reads like it is about your values and not theirs. FWIW I think itis assinine to spend that kind of money on a diaper bag so I never will. Otherwise it isn't my business how people spend their money.

Yeahhhhhhhhhh... didn't think I needed to completely break it down for everyone, I didn't think anyone would jump to such quick conclusions and assume such negativity, figured people would focus more on the question (how to contain the possible odor)....

But yeah, I volunteered the idea of them participating in this forum (as well as other categories on the bump) but her husband asked me to do the research instead of them making a user name.  The wife agreed.  She doesn't care to participate in chat forums, especially now that she's read this thread... and hardly ever goes online.

She's decided to get one of the etsy people she buys off of to custom make her a purse organizer insert, except lined in vinyl to make the interior more water proof and then she's going to get those rolls of plastic baggies someone suggested a few posts up to double up in the wetbag.

  • Man, I love all this baby mamma drama. It's great. But anyhoo - you had to expect when you post : "Louis Vuitton diaper bag??? Crazy????" that some people wil respond with a "well duh, yes it's crazy." Because, seriously - a $1400 diaper bag? Come on. I would LOVE to buy myself a $1400 bag to schlep around my babies poopy diapers but there is a reason that I'm using cloth and cost savings is one of them. However, if your friend can afford that kind of bag, more power to her. I will enviously glare at her while I use the crunchy granola bag that I made myself for $10 with some hand-me-down sweaters from my grandma.

Unfortunately I don't think she will be able to get out smell if some how a dirty does get on the leather or if a bottle gets knocked over in the bag. To fix this problem, I recommend that she take that $1400 and buy herself some sexy sassy Louis heels, and a smaller Louis clutch and have her generous husband who must be a saint for even considering getting her a $1400 baby bag, to take her on a hot sexy date while she lets the babysitter use her $10 baby bag that she can make from grandmas sweaters.

    cheers!

  • What is her reason for CDing? a $1400 bag negates cost and wrapping in plastic has its own environmental issues.  If she has a wetbag there is no need to wrap them again.  It WILL make them smelly because there will be no air circulation.

You can CD to keep chemicals away from the baby which is why I CD.

  • Um, real LV bags don't have suede lining. The fake ones do. I'm guessing your obsessed friend has been going to Purse Parties and buying faux. If it's fake, who cares if baby poos directly into it? As for the smell, that shouldn't be a worry. I bought an LV Neverfull GM for my diaper bag for my second child upgrading from a Burberry bag from my first, but bought an LV Totally PM for my third because the Neverfull was this vortex in which I was constantly losing things and it just wouldn't stay organized. Also, the Totally has these great exterior pockets that are perfect for holding bottles.

  • Wow pixy stix your a nasty b****!
  • Why anyone would spend that amount of money on any bag is completely beyond me.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I'm agree with MK,the post was posted like a year ago. Exactly the same excuse a bough the friend helping them on some research, etc.
