Etiquette Police, Please Help

So, I am planning DS's birthday party and it will be at noon.  There is a wide range of kids and adults coming and I will have tons of finger foods, sandwiches, snacks, pizza, and of course sweets.  Should I include something on the invitation that lunch will be provided?  If so, how?  I don't want to get all the food and have people eat before hand.  Or, should I just do a word of mouth when I talk to people?  Thanks

  • I think since it's at noon, it's assumed there will be lunch, so I wouldn't do/say anything

This exactly.  If you were having it at say 3 or 4 in the afternoon then you should put some indication of food on the invite.

Agree, I was always taught if your having a party in the middle of a normal meal time it is assume youll ben serving a meal

  • If you do a party at normal meal times people assume a meal will be provided.  You never have to put on an invitation what type of food will be served.

  • The proper etiquette I believe, is that if you have any party around a standard meal time, meals should be provided.  If you are not, then the invite should say something like "cake and refreshments will be served."  If you are not having the party around meal times, I would assume no meal would be served and eat beforehand.

  • Most people assume that a lunchtime party will include food, but I've been to several lately that left me feeling cheated and hungry. I even went to an evening wedding lately that required an RSVP to the reception, but then they only served us popcorn. Yeah...ew.

From your menu description, it doesn't sound like an overly formal party, so I don't think you have to be overly formal with the invitation. Just to be sure there's no question, you could say something like "Join us for lunch" or "Lunch will be provided."

Families with kids will probably appreciate that. There's nothing worse than taking a hungry kid (or several) to a party expecting a full lunch and then getting nothing but sodas and cake.

HOLY CRAP on the popcorn thing...

I agree with this... "Join us for Lunch" or "Birthday party luncheon" or something like that...
