Belly Getting Too Big to Drive....Crap!

Having an odd dilemma and wondering if anyone has any ideas. My belly is at the point where it's about to hit the steering wheel while I drive. I am pretty short and I can't move the seat back any further or else I won't be able to touch the pedals and I can't move the steering wheel up too much higher or else it'll block my view. I don't know what to do and I'm getting concerned about how I am going to continue driving! I still have 13 more weeks of work and 17 until my due date! Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

  • Can you tip the seat back a bit? My car has two points of adjustment. Forward/back and upright/recline. Good luck!

  • Most steering wheels in new-ish cars adjust now so you could try moving the steering wheel up and away from your belly?

  • It's ok if your belly touches the steering wheel as long as it is not interfering with your ability to drive. Mine touches now and I am still fine.

I have a little wiggle room left in my seat, but with twins there is no way I will be able to drive at 30 weeks. I may not want to though.

I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but try pushing your seat back a bit but tilting the set back forward slightly. It will give you more room for your belly without having to reach a long way. also, if you seat goes up and down, you can push it down as far as it will go which will let you go back further.

Also, check to see if your steer wheel telescopes in and out. Most do now. I thought mine just went up and down, but it actually goes in and out as well, giving me more room for the belly.

  • What kind of car do you have?  I can see this being more of a problem in a smaller car.  Is there an SUV you could borrow? :)

Plus another recommendation to see if you have a steering wheel that moves in/out and up/down.

This is not post related, but I just have to say your sig picture is awesome! I love it. So cute!

Now for my post related comment. If you have airbags, you really should have 12 inches between you and the steering wheel. I am on the shorter side too so I see this being an issue in the future especially because I have short legs. I drive and SUV and the seat itself is really close, but I have the back reclined so that my torso is further away. Fortunately my bump is still quite small and I have a decent length torso so it hasn't been a problem yet.
