Anyone else feel like they're constantly getting ridiculous advice on babies? What have people told you?
Here's the latest from my MIL - I was excited that LO rolled over. I would have been excited no matter when she rolled over for the first time, but she happened to do it at 2.5 months, which is earlier than average. MIL warned me that babies who meet their physical milestones early will meet their cognitive milestones late, therefore rolling early means that she won't talk until later than average.
I had to try soooo hard not to roll my eyes - I'm pretty sure babies hit all milestones at their own pace, and her rolling muscles are not somehow stealing energy from the part of her brain responsible for talking.
Oh, and my aunt told me to throw away my rocking chair because I'll spoil her and have to rock her to sleep for her entire childhood if I do it now. Yikes!
Re: Dumbest parenting/baby advice you've received?
Lol! My MIL assumed DD's formula needed to be changed b/c her poop changes colors. Because she didn't know that babies' poop does that. (DD wasn't even a month old at that point.) Yeah....and MIL has 4 kids....
I get told all the time DD is spoiled. Just because there's times, since you know she's a baby & all, where she'll cry & want to be held.
And my mom's boyfriend said we need to feed DD stuff like mashed potatoes & ice cream.
My mom has told me this before. She said she put rice cereal in all our kids' bottles to help us sleep through the night. Before I knew better I tried this with my DD. She STTN but not because I did that.
This exactly... It drives me crazy! Stop thinking you know what my daughter needs.... You don't spend all day every day with her!

BFP#2 DD arrived 5/7/12
I get that from my mother all the time. DD is a very quiet baby so when she cries there is a reason, even if that reason is just that she is cranky and wants to be soothed a little more. However, holding her too much will make her a spoiled child (apparently).
Also according to MIL I have boob that produces less BM than the other because I don't drink enough milk. But don't worry FIL corrected her; it's not milk but beer I should be drinking to fix this. *facepalm*

I've never understood why it's so wrong to baby a baby. I mean, you don't want to baby a child, or even really baby a toddler, but I think that it is perfectly appropriate to baby a baby!

Actually, you FIL is right- beer can help milk production.

This is a myth. Completely untrue.
By the Sr pediatrician at the clinic! Our regular pediatrician was busy, and we saw the Sr Partner. She's very nice, but really old school! And, SD's mother kept telling SD he just needs to cry, he'll calm in a minute while LO was rooting for a breast. It was all I could do not to snatch him away. I DID snatch him away at te next visit.
