STM's: Cloth diaper options

Ladies,

I've decided to cloth diaper my baby, but there are so many options! Charlie Banana, flip, econobum... then there is hiring a service...

Does anyone have a preference or can offer me any advise as to what to get/what not to get?

Thank you

Re: STM's: Cloth diaper options

  • We're using BumGenius as well. Here's a blog post about them from a blog I read.. seems like they've been working great for this family for 2 years (they post links to their follow-up cloth diaper posts at the bottom of this entry)- https://www.younghouselove.com/2010/08/the-much-requested-cloth-diaper-post/

Here's another review I read before purchasing ours, we went with the elemental, but this site also has a good post about the new Freetime ones as well - https://dailymothering.com/bumgenius-elemental-organic-all-in-one-cloth-diaper-review-20-gc-giveaway/

  • We used BumGenius with velcro (aplix) and Fuzzibunz (they only come in snaps).  The BumGenius snaps are SO hard to open/close, I broke nails on them!  The downside is that the velcro falls apart after a little over a year.  I'm sticking with Fuzzibunz this time around... I also like Charlie Banana (just like Fuzzibunz).

  • We like BGs and also we do prefolds with Grovia shells.

  • Not a STM, but did the CD thing for two daycare kids.  Loved BumGenius (velcro), would even consider using those for my own kid.  The other kid had snap ones from a service, and they were a nightmare to change and leaked everywhere.  Have no idea what brand those were...  They were pretty non-descript white metal snapping diapers.

  • We use Blueberry and Swaddlebees (same company).  I only use the OS pockets.  For the new baby I bought Lil Joeys NB, a few swaddle bees NB simplex.

A great place to get answers about different diapers is the cloth diaper board here on the Bump.  Check out the F&Q section first.

Keep in mind diapers will fit each LO differently what may work great for one LO may not work for another.  We learned this the hard way when we bought a stash of Fuzzi Bunz and they never fit our LO right no matter how we adjusted.  We sold them at a loss.  Then tried different brands and found what worked best.

  • I can't quote on my phone, but I agree with the pp about finding what works for you. Different brands work better for some babies than others. She likes swaddlebees while those leaked horribly & never fit DS right. We loved fuzzibunz though. We used both the sized & OS versions. I would get a couple different types in different brands before buying a lot of anything so you can see what works best for your LO. I thought I would love AIOs the best, but turned out I really preferred pockets.
