Just curious when you made the transition from rocking to sleep for Naptime and/or bedtime to just putting them in the crib with no rocking at all?
How long did it take to transition? How long did you start off leaving LO in crib before going in to rock if necessary?
My LO is 14.5 weeks old. The past 2 days I have put her in crib and only let her fuss for 5 minutes before going in to rock her. Is this too long to start or perhaps too short and I should let her fuss longer? Is she too young to even be trying this transition?
Thanks
Jessica
Re: When did you stop rocking LO to sleep?
With DD1 we let her take the lead. I rocked her until she was about 6 months old. One day I discovered by accident that she would fall asleep on her own. I laid her down to go grab something, and when I came back a few minutes later she was asleep. After that I started putting her down drowsy. Sometimes it worked the first time, other times I had to go back in and rock her, but within a few weeks she was going down on her own like clockwork. Now as a 2 yo she's completely regressed, but that's another story
DD2 doesn't really require "rocking" per se. She is still swaddled, so I just hold her and she takes her paci and falls asleep. Sometimes I do have to bounce or jiggle her, but not that often.
I'm not a big fan of forcing it. They're only little once, and before you know it they won't want to be snuggled at all. I know friends who were set on "teaching" their babies to fall asleep on their own early on, and it resulted in many nights of frustration and tears. But DD1 was a very easy baby, in that regard. If I'd had a terrible sleeper who knows what I would have done.

The last few nights we've been able to put Ari down drowsy but awake. He rock him to settle him down but he's been falling asleep on his own.
We are going to transition away from the swaddle in the next few weeks so I imagine this might change. Also, I still rock (very vigorously) for naps because he is the world's worst napper!

The only time I nurse her down is right before going to sleep for the night. She really wants to tank up around bedtime, and has been doing great this way.
I still do.
At night it's more like, I rock her upright against my shoulder after nursing to get the burps. She's usually already pretty much asleep just from nursing.
