Convertible Car Seats

Questions for all of you!

1. When do you plan on moving your baby to the convertible seat? If you have already, what age did you do it?

2. What convertible seat are you buying and why?

Thanks! I'm trying to figure out when to move her to the bigger seat, and I'm debating between 3 different models right now. It would be great to hear what others chose!

Re: Convertible Car Seats

  • 1. When do you plan on moving your baby to the convertible seat? If you have already, what age did you do it? We moved him right around 6 1/2 months.  He was too heavy to keep carrying in the infant one.

    2. What convertible seat are you buying and why?   We have the Evenflow Triump one.  I did a lot of research and found really nothing but great things about it and the safety was a great plus!  I like that it goes to 65 lbs.

We haven't moved our LO yet but that is the one that we bought too.  It is the highest rated on Consumer Reports for safety.

  • 1)  We moved him over a couple weeks ago.  He hadn't actually outgrown the infant carrier yet but it was starting to look pretty cramped, and we were getting tired of hauling it around.

    2)  We have a Recaro ProRide.  I could say that we bought it due to its excellent safety ratings but really my husband wanted it because Recaro also makes seats for racecars.  It is very safe though.

  • DS is still in his infant seat but he's getting quite heavy to tote around in it.  We bought a second Evenflo Triumph DLX 65 for him (on sale for $129 @ Amazon).  DD will be 3YO next week and she also has the same car seat.  We love it!

  • Hmm, I know I moved her to the convertable one at 5mos because she had supassed the weight on her infant carrier (she's a big girl lol!)

We went with the Graco My ride 65. I love it and so does my DD she can see out the windows better.

    2. What convertible seat are you buying and why? We have a Britax Marathon in both of our vehicles.  Originally we were just going to get one and get a cheaper one for DH's truck but we liked it so much & it's so easy to adjust that we went ahead and got two.  DS still doesn't love being in the carseat but he doesn't fuss nearly as much as he did in his infant seat!

  • We moved her a few weeks ago ( she was within 1in and 1lb of the limits and looking very cramped)

We have the Britax Marathon. It fits well in our small car.

  • We moved him to a convertible in my mom's car (she takes care of him) about a month ago.  He is really too heavy to be carried around in the infant seat, so she we figured we'd just get the seat now.  We just bought one for my car too, but we haven't switched in my car yet because it's a 2 dr and at least now I can swing his seat into the back even if he is heavy.  I guess I'll have to start climbing into the back with him soon, though.  He's much more comfortable in the convertible now, and has almost outgrown it height wise.

We ended up getting the Britax Boulevard CS 70.   I was losing my mind comparing seats, and this one has good reviews and also is supposed to fit decently in small cars.

are we married to the same person??   Same reason here too!  We have 2 of them and I do love it!  He also looks so comfy in it.

  • 1. DD uses a convertible carseat in my car and still uses her infant seat in DH's truck. She primarily rides in my car. We switched her over between 3-4 months old.

    2. We went with the Graco Smart Seat. We love it and so does DD. It's roomy for her, has lots of padding and can grow with her until 100 pounds. We plan to buy a second one for DH's truck. It also has steel reinforcements in the frame of the seat. It's REALLY heavy!

    Questions for all of you!

    1. When do you plan on moving your baby to the convertible seat? If you have already, what age did you do it?

The car seat I want doesn't come til September so I plan to move DD then.. About 9 months.. She's a small girl, only 16lbs now so we have some room.

    2. What convertible seat are you buying and why?

Clek Foonf. It's a safe carseat with a crumble zone to minimize impact on the child, rear facing til 45lb, steel construction, good looking.

  • We haven't made the switch yet, and haven't bought a convertible for her yet. I guess we'll make the transition sometime between 9 months and 1 year. I think she may be getting close to the height limit (30 lbs or 30 inches). She's long. We will buy her a Britax Marathon. This is the same seat we have for our toddler and I love it. Britax has excellent safety ratings, the seat seems better padded/more comfortable than some others, I love how the straps adjust, and the seat goes to 45lbs rear facing and 70lbs forward facing.

  • 1. We switched over at about 6 1/2 mos because DS was just getting to heavy to haul in the infant seat.

    2. We got a First Years Tru Fit seat for my car (primary) and a Cosco Scenera for DH's truck and Grandparent's car.   So far we're happy with them.

  • We brought her home in the Radian. It's a solid and comfortable seat. We've got a tall baby so the seat was a good call. I love that it can be used rear facing for a long time.

  • We just bought the Evenflo Triumph 65 dlx last week. We had some problems installing it at first because it is too difficult to tighten when not in the center seat. Now we were able to get it in the center seat using the seat belt straps and it's perfect. We are still unsure as to what seat we are going to get for our other car though.

  • We just bought a Evenflo Triumph for DH's truck. He will still use the infant seat in my car for now. I wanted to make sure that we liked it before we bought a second one. We just installed it last night but so far we like it. I bought it because it had good consumer reviews and alot of the mamas here recommended it.

  • Thanks for all of the replies. We are now deciding between Britax Marathon and the Evenflo Triumph. Based on what you ladies said, I think I'm going with the Triumph. It's much cheaper and Consumer Reports rates it well.

ASAP in my car and DH will still use the infant carrier (Snugride 30) until we can afford a 2nd convertible.

    2. What convertible seat are you buying and why?

Britax Marathon 70. Good safety ratings, comfortable, not so big and bulky like others.

Just FYI. If you really want a Britax, Albee Baby is having a sale. The Marathon 70 is $199-$217. I just ordered mine. I was picky about the color so I paid $217, no tax, and free shipping :)

  • We moved him at about 6 months. We have a Recaro ProRide and loooove it. We have one for out Cherokee and one for the sentra. It's steel and exceeds US safety standards. He is soooo much happier in it as opposed to his infant seat.
