We definitely haven't tried. He has had some weird allergy issues and when I tried to introduce almond milk (can do cheese and yogurt but not whole milk) I gave him a teeny 5mL because I was so paranoid about tree nuts. Within probably an hr he got a bright red diaper rash, which is totally out of the norm for him. It totally freaked me out and the pedi said it was very suspect, so we have an allergy appt on Monday. With how strongly Fiona seems to be allergic to milk and soy she won't get any of the top allergens until she's tested, and even then I'll give them in the hospital parking lot lol.
We introduced it just after a year with the pedi's approval. She was fine the first 6 or 7 times with it. I gave her a pb and j sandwich one day for lunch and she ended up getting a giant hive above her lip and then they spread all the way up her face. It went down with a dose of Benadryl. We've stayed away since then. She LOVES soy butter, so that has been a great replacement for us, too.
Our friend's son is 3 months older and they ran in to the same thing. He had pb probably a dozen times before breaking out in a little rash. The next time she gave it to him, it was much worse and they ended up at the ER. Both of us were told that our kids would most likely outgrow it.

We gave him peanut butter around 10 months and he had no reaction. There is no allergy in either of our families so we weren't overly worried. I would have waited til 1 year, but DH stuck a finger covered in peanut butter in LO's mouth before I could say anything.
We have no known peanut allergies in our family, but for some reason I'm still so paranoid. I was going to give it to him before his 15 month well check, but I still chickened out ;0) He has sun butter & jelly sandwiches all the time. It's funny because DH and I were just talking about this last night.
I'm wondering though the longer I wait the worst it will be if he does end up having a reaction.

I gave Chase PB for the first time after his first birthday. No allergies on either side in the family, so I wasn't concerned, but was keeping an eye on him anyway. Glad I did. He broke out in hives within 5 minutes everywhere the PB touched. Poor guys eyes were almost swollen shut with them. Luckily it didn't affect his breathing at all. We rushed to the store a couple of minute away for Benadryl and then took him to the Pediatrician. We now have an epi-pen jr. that we keep in his diaper bag and we don't have any PB in the house. We give him sunflower seed butter instead, which I love too.
I would say go ahead and try it. But I would recommend having Benadryl on hand when you introduce it, just in case.

thanks for the respones ladies! I'm still gonna hold off for now and just stay with the sunflower butter she has tried. Like pp, I'm super paranoid about it. I know reactions may be rare but all 4 of the other kids in her class at dc have had a recation which freaks me out even more! at least i dont have to worry about her being exposed there!
We haven't given it to the twins yet. Our ped's office prefers that you wait to introduce it until at least 18 months, if not closer to two years. There is no history of nut allergies in our family and our oldest son loves peanut butter but we're being careful and limiting their exposure to it as much as possible.

For some reason, I thought it was 2 years old before you could introduce it.

We gave PB to DS at about 13 months... unfortunately, he had a pretty scary reaction, including coughing, gasping, and vomiting. We ended up calling 911 and spent a few hours in the ER. I was also very leary on giving it to him... but our pedi gave me the okay. At least we now know, we have gotten it confirmed with an allergest, have removed all peanut products from the house and have an Epi pen Jr with us at all times.
I introduced it at about one, because NO ONE has any allergies in my family. Lo and behold, he is allergic. The hives popped out immediately. His breathing was fine, thank goodness, so we were spared a trip to the ER, but we have taken him to the allergist and he is officially to allergic to both tree nuts and peanuts, Now we are geared up with our Epipen JR and Benedryl.
Re: peanut butter
We gave him PB around his first birthday after we got the okay from his pedi. He had no reaction.
We hear a lot about peanut allergies in the media, but the majority of people are not allergic. Chances are your LO will not have a nut allergy.
Try a tiny bit and see what happens

Nope. I haven't either.
