  • Tell them you are BFing and they tailor your meds accordingly.  I had special meds even during the c/s bc I was BFing.

  • I did not take anything but Tylenol and Motrin. They worked just fine.

Same here. I still have a ton left over, but my doctor made sure I wouldn't be in any more pain than I needed to be in PP.

  • I really didn't want to take anything as strong as Percocet because they make me so nauseous, so I was totally fine with just Motrin.  I handled the pain really well and for me the sooner I started moving around the better I felt.  Good luck!

  • I started on a morphine pump.  I had vomiting after the spinal block, and the morphine pump seemed to make things worse.  Therefore, I tried not to use it very much.  My OB wouldn't let me switch to oral pain meds until I could hold down food.  I was given various meds to try to control the vomiting.  DS was delivered at 9:10 a.m., and I was finally able to hold down supper later that evening.  My doctor prescribed vicodin every 4 hours and ibuprofen every 4 hours, so I took the vicodin and two hours later took the ibuprofen and kept alternating the meds every two hours.  Overall, my pain hasn't been bad, but there is one area on my lower right incision line that really hurts/burns.  The nurses thought the pain was being caused by the staples, but it still really hurts and the staples were removed yesterday morning.  If that pain wasn't there, I probably wouldn't have been using pain meds by the 2nd day after the c-section.

  • With my most recent c-section, they added pain meds into the shot that I got for my spinal that would work for 24 hours after my c-section (recommended by my doctor) if I had pain prior to that I was able to get something but I didn't need anything. After 24 hours I was given Motrin and Vicodin for pain. With DD I had a morphine pump for 24 hours and then had Motrin and Oxy.

    This exactly.

  • You may not need any if you have a scheduled c-section -- I had a really great recovery and after the duramorph in my spinal wore off (about 48 hours after surgery), I only needed one dose of toradol (a non-narcotic iv ibuprofen) and then just took 600 mg of ibprofen every 6 hours.  My doctor said that most of her scheduled c-sections don't need much pain medication.

    My experience was similar.

I was on a pump the first 24 hours, then I V pain meds in request another 24 hours after that (I should have requested them a bit more, but DD was in the NICU o I was running myself ragged and causing myself more pain...) By the time I went home, I was on ibuprofen and the occasional vicodin.

I took the vicodin at night to help me sleep for few days, but hardly even took a single pain pill once I was home.

My OB actually gave me the major side-eye at the 10-day checkup because I sat up without help.
