Waking up vibrant after being almost asleep

Hello-

Every night my son either falls asleep or is basically mostly asleep and then will suddenly pop open his eyes, laugh and start kicking his legs.  It will then take up to 2 hours for him to get tired again... he will be asleep for about 10 minutes and then wake with a sudden burst of energy and is basically ready to play.  Does this happen to anyone else?  I am really not sure what to do because then he doesn't fall asleep until LATE... I keep the lights dark and try to maintain a sleep atmosphere, but it seriously isn't working (it also doesn't help that he is so sweet and cute when he wakes up and wants to hang out)... any advice?

Re: Waking up vibrant after being almost asleep

  • I would try to get him as tired as I could in the 2 hours before bedtime. My LO is always hard to put down if he's only somewhat tired. We've found that crawling, playing with his toys (crawling over them) and swimming at the pool tire him out the best. Sometimes just going to the playground for an hour in the evening works just as well. GL!

P.S. An over-tired baby is just as bad. You need to find the sweet spot between.

  • DD does the same thing! But not at bedtime-just sometimes instead of anaps. I feel like it happens when we're in the car or out and about...it will be almost nap time and she will start tO fall asleep and then boom wake up and is re energized....it's like she only needed to "rest her eyes."
