Adoption

Intro & Orientation Question

Hi all! I've posted twice on this board, but haven't really made an introduction. In May/June I did an IVF cycle that failed and DH and I decided we were done with fertility treatments. Since then I have been looking into adoption. We are still paying off the IVF and at this point cannot see pursuing DA or IA due to the costs. I've found an organization which works with the state of TX to adopt from foster care. I called to make reservations for next Tuesday's orientation and found out that mostly covers fostering, but that there is an adoption training tonight. I'm not sure if DH will be able to leave work in time to make it to the one tonight and am nervous about going alone! What have your experiences been with orientation meetings? Thanks!

Re: Intro & Orientation Question

  • The orientation meetings are just that.  Just informative.  You ask and get your questions answered here.  If is usually casual and informal.  They will basically give you information that you would need before making a decision to proceed with trainings.  It's a great information session and I highly recommend it.  It's great if your hubby goes to, but if he can't that's ok.  It will be important for him to attend the training classes though in the future.  Hope this helps. Good luck and welcome.

  • Thanks for the responses! Man, did they ever give us info!! DH and I are on overload. lol The class we went to tonight was considered adoption training and when we got there they said that it was an advanced class in their program. I don't know why it wouldn't be considered basic info, but oh well. Now we just have all this info to process and try to decide where we want to go from here.

  • Just did my orientation June 25th. They gave us some information about foster care, our applications, and answered questions. A foster/adopt mother also spoke for a bit about her experience.
