So tonight I went to a coworker's baby shower (she works in a different office, but we have a small group of staff). When I get to the shower I find out that she picked out one of the names we planned on using for her baby! We, on the other hand, have not told anyone (except my step-daughter) the names we picked so it isn't like she 'stole it' or anything but now I feel like it will be super awkward if we use that name! We are due the same week and everything! I'm not sure what to do and am super bummed!! I felt like an idiot but I cried the whole way home and now I wish we would have told everyone our names the minute we decided. What would you do? Use the name anyway? Consider other options? Since I would be the second one to 'announce' the name I feel like there would be a ton of gossip about how I used "her" baby name even though we've planned on that name for months! Gah!
Re: awkward name situation - WWYD?
I'd say use it.
A woman in my church just had her baby and she used one of the names on my list. My first thought was "that sucks, now I have to convince my DH of another name". Then I realized that our kids will never play together (except if they end up in the same school) and I never talk to this lady so I don't really care.
This. I work in a department with five other women. Two have daughters named Emily. Our daughter will be Emilia. Two others have dogs named Jack, which we would've used for a boy. Not a big deal in any way, shape, or form
.
LOL...

Go for it, it would only be weird if you were family or really close friends.

Yes, actually she is also my sister. I failed to mention that in the original post
Thanks for the feedback everyone - didn't mean to post and run last night but I was exhausted! Couldn't wait to come back this morning to see what you guys thought! You are all right, we work in different offices, our kids will likely never even meet, and since we were set on the name we should stick with it. I guess I just got really nervous that the other staff would be all gossipy and think I jacked her baby name for myself since she announced it and we hadn't. I wish I had just told everyone when we decided on it a few months back so we could chalk it up to coincidence and move on. With a clearer head this morning it does seem kind of dumb to worry about it when we probably won't work together forever anyway.
Our names are Cooper and Crosby if you were curious (Cooper is what she had chosen). I'm laying claim to them now permanently, on the internet! You are all officially sworn to secrecy
