I start back to school on Tuesday and my schedule sucks for pumping. I thought that 16oz to send to daycare would be good, but she ate almost 11 in her half day today, so now I'm starting to freak a bit. My plan time is basically from 10-11, then my lunch is 11:10-11:40, but that includes walking the kids to lunch and picking them up again. Plus, it's too close together to pump twice. I'm pumping one side (4-5oz) around 5:45 before I feed her. Then, I'm thinking about pumping at 10:30 and ten not again until 3:45 when school lets out. I'll pump a last time before she goes to bed.
Do you think it's going to kill my supply to only pump twice at work? I know that some of you don't get to pump much while you're working. Are things going ok? I'm starting to freak out a bit, which I know is the norm. The fact that she had 7.5oz in one sitting today threw me for a loop.
Re: ? about pumping at work
THank you!! That makes me feel a lot better.
Are you sure she needs that much? Most breastfed babies stick with 3-5 ounce bottles. What I found with DS was that he drank from the bottle super fast and wasn't ready to be done, so he cried for more. I asked his teacher to take burp breaks really frequently to slow down the feeding and he's fine with 4 ounce bottles now. He takes one every 2.5 to 3 hours.
BUt to your pumping question, you may struggle with only two sessions. Can you pump right before school starts or on your way to school (some women can pump and drive). you might also try to fit in a really short pump session around 11:30. You won't get much, it being so close to the 10:30 session but it will give you some and drain the breast to trigger it to keep production up.
I'm going to tell them this tomorrow. She HOUSES bottles, so I really don't think she knows she's full yet. I don't think she needs that much at ALL!! But, it was only her second day, so we're still working on things.
