I got a phone call from my OB yesterday. They pushed back my 6 week checkup by a week because he's going into surgery that day. A whole nother week with no sex and no swimming. This sucks :-(

I'm always amazed at how different OB offices handle the six week checkup and the postpartum instructions. Mine said sex was okay to resume once the bright red bleeding had stopped, and my doctor didn't blink an eye when I told him my husband and I had resumed sex at three weeks postpartum. He also didn't perform an internal exam or check me out physically at all, though I'm assuming he would have had I been complaining of pain or infection.
Sorry you have to wait a week - I'd be frustrated too.
No sex and no swimming may suck for you but have a heart, the man is going into surgery. And it's only an extra week.
Maybe I wasn't clear - he's performing surgery, not having surgery. My appointment was bumped for someone else's appointment. I would obviously understand if he were having surgery.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I understand your frustration now. I'm sorry

I didn't have my 6 week PP checkup until today at 8 weeks 1 day. They lost an OB at the hospital so they are short staffed and since I had an uncomplicated vaginal I wasn't on the priority list. It's no big deal though, all they do is give you a pap and check to see if you're healing ok. I know it sucks but it's just 1 more week.
I would call and ask about swimming. A lot of OBs are fine at least with pools by 6 weeks PP even if you have not been checked. I had DD in winter and swam at 5 weeks. I did not even think to ask and it was not summer so it never came up. I was fine.
I'm going to go with maybe the woman needed the surgery a whole lot more than your six week check up. Maybe it has to do with her life, or a babies life. I am pretty sure they don't just schedule surgery for no reason. Remember when you were pregnant you would want what ever life saving surgery as soon as possible too. Sex can wait one more week, or if your feeling good enough like a lot of women just go ahead and do it.
