Update on my wreck

It has been over 2 weeks since my wreck and we finally got our car in the shop today to be repaired and picked up a rental. We did get a car seat the night I first posted. DS likes to inform us it is a "cool car seat" pretty much every time he gets in it. Insurance told us to get whatever we wanted and they would reimburse, so we got the Diono Radian that I'd been wanting (primarily because it is so slim and will fit better with the infant seat, but also because it converts to a booster and you can use it forever. I highly recommend it so far when you ladies are looking at convertibles.

So. Car being fixed and insurance paying. Yay!

DS is still fine and DD is still fine. Yay!

Me? Not totally fine.

I have whiplash still and I'm glad I already had a chiropractor lined up because I'm seeing a lot of him now. The biggest thing, though, is my uterus is all freaked out. The day of the wreck I had contractions and went to L&D and they calmed down. The next day I had timeable contractions (10 minutes for a while, then a few every 3 minutes!) but I was able to stop them finally by laying down.

After that, it just became every time I stand, walk, etc, my uterus contracts and STAYS contracted. I talked to my doctor and she thinks my uterus was bruised in the wreck and it is now irritable. I am not allowed to do anything that keeps it contracted for more than 20 minutes. I'm not supposed to ever do anything that causes the contraction to be painful (which includes useful things like doing dishes, even folding laundry, and generally bending over. Also, picking up DS, but sometimes I just have to). I'm supposed to spend as much time as possible sitting or laying down. So I'm not officially on bed rest, but I'm on...chair rest? It is pretty difficult to maintain with a 2 year old, and we're both going stir crazy staying home so much. DS watches more TV than he should, because most types of play with him involves me sitting on the floor and I just can't handle it for long. I've been trying to schedule play dates in people's homes, so that DS is contained and I can sit....just anything to get out.

So much is falling on DH right now. His work is stressful and he is working after DS goes to bed to get more hours in. He has to come home at 5 in order to keep DS from going crazy and cook dinner, do any cleaning, etc. We've switched to using all paper plates and plastic utensils (Yay environment) because we just can't keep up with the dishes otherwise (and no dishwasher).

So anyway: Stress! And it seems like the more time goes by, the more little things cause the hardness, like sitting up straight does quite often. I have to be reclined back.

I was waiting to post this when I could also update and say that DH got a new job, but we are still waiting to hear if that is going to work out (GRR) so I guess we'll have to see what happens there. It is a local job, and a 6 month contract with only a slight possibility of it becoming a full time job, but it would be so nice to have it for those 6 months.

  • :(

BIG hugs! do you have any friends/ family that can come once or twice a week and help with laundry and some cooking? That seems like a lot of stress on DH, and you guys as well.

at least you are already at 35 weeks, will this void your plans for a vbac? (I'm pretty sure you were going to VBAC, sorry if I'm wrong)

  • Glad you were able to get a car seat and your vehicle fixed.  Hopefully your uterus will relax and things will calm down before your LO comes.  T &P for you!

  • I'm glad to hear that some things are going well, but I'm so sorry to hear about you! Car accidents just mess people up and your "chair" rest sounds like a really frustrating thing to go through. I am hoping you hear good news about your DH's job soon.
  • Sorry it has been so rough. I can't imagine. I hope these next 5 weeks go by quickly and are uneventful and less painful for you.

Unfortunately the only family we have in the region lives 1.5 hours away and isn't very helpful (and doesn't have her own car). No close friends either. MiL and FiL were visiting from Georgia last weekend and MiL did a LOT of dishes (the last time I was able to do any was Tuesday before my doctor told me to stop, and DH just hadn't had time) and helped us get caught up at least.  I do have a casual friend who has volunteered to watch DS while I go to a doctor's appointment on Monday at least. He goes with me to all my normal ones, but this is a consult with an OB to clear me for VBAC (my regular dr is FP) and I've heard it can take hours just in the waiting room there. There is no way I could handle DS for hours in a waiting room at this point and DH can't take off work!

Good memory on the VBAC! :) Luckily so far nothing is hindering me for VBAC. My GD is so easily controlled by food that it doesn't even matter that I can't do anything remotely approaching exercise. I'm not really worried about the OB consult because I still seem to be a good candidate and he is supposed to be very VBAC friendly. I *SO* hope nothing changes that at least! I just have to make it through the next ~5 weeks. And now you know why I was posting hopefully about the full moon last night (for NEXT month). ;)

  • Oh my! I'm sorry to hear about your couch rest. :( That sounds really tricky. I hope your uterus decides to give you a break soon.

  • I'm sorry you're going through such a rough time :(  I'm glad you're already almost 36 weeks, though, so hopefully the next 4-5 weeks will go smoothly and quickly.  It's so hard not having anyone around you to help, but it sounds like you guys are doing the best you can. Hang in there!

  • Aww man. That stinks that your got an irritable ute! I wonder if that'll be a concern with the high risk OB regarding your VBAC. I really hope not for your sake. I can't imagine being in that condition with nobody nearby to help. Boo! Hope things settle down for you a bit and that everything goes smoothly.

  • Wow, that really stinks about chair rest and your uterus.  Thankfully you DD and DS are doing well.  Thinking about you and hope things get better soon!  Thoughts to your DH too, he must be a little stressed everything that is going on.

  • Im not sure my DH would be doing so well in that situation. Hopefully you get cleared for vbac and the next 5 weeks go quickly. You'll be looking back on this time soon enough!
  • Ugh, you poor thing!  You're in my prayers!

  • Sorry to hear about the rest bit, and that your ute is being cranky!  Just a few more weeks right!  And don't feel guilty about letting your little guy watch extra TV, it's all survival at this point right?  It won't hurt him a bit!

  • I'm sorry you are still going through all of this. I don't even know what else to say.

  • Aww I am sorry to hear about all these complications and stress!  Hopefully after a lot of rest you will be able to do more without having the contractions.  And FX that your husband gets this job!
