Multiples

What do I REALLY need?

We have a 17m old and have all the baby basics.  We bought another infant seat from a friend and another gave us an extra changing table.  Besides another crib, what do we really need?

I realize this time around I could care less if things match, are new, etc.  With DS, everything had to be "just so" and I'm smarter this time because I realize they only use stuff for .0000002 seconds before it's in a closet upstairs.

I know it's early but I"m nesting on paper right now. LOL

Re: What do I REALLY need?

  • Do you have a swing, bouncy seat, pnp? More clothes, more burp rags, more bottles if you are FF and a second boppy.  A stroller that can transport the two infant seats such as a DSNG.

Also, I don't know if you used these the first time around, but I found these pads by circo  https://www.target.com/p/circo-2pk-changing-pads-for-bassinet-and-changing-table/-/A-13168437#?lnk=sc_qi_detailbutton that I use very frequently so I don't have to change sheets in the pnp or crib as often.

  • only a week in here but I've liked having two boppies, way more blankets/receiving blankets and burp clothes than before and clothes.  I laughed when people said they did a load of twin laundry  a day but the truth is they are small so only a few things fit well and we have a lot of "help" right now and diaper changes don't always go so smooth...

We also love our swing and I do wish I had two but I don't have the room.

  • Good thing you FB messaged me otherwise I'd be like what the heck is she posting here for?!?!? hah. So its early for us too, but we go through TONS of diapers, and burp cloths. I swear in the beginning all you need are diapers, burp cloths and laundry detergent. We needed more bottles too, you go through them quick (if youre not boobing it). An extra swing/bouncy chair is helpful too for when you dont want to/cant hold them. Oh and you might want a cage for little man- thats the hardest part of having multiples- older siblings!!!!

  • I would way to wait on getting two swings, bouncers, etc until you know they like it. We got two swings as gifts and we have yet to use them more than once or so a week.

We currently have 9 bottles. They get hand washed once a day and we run the dishwasher once a day.  Once they get to the 8 oz size, I might buy more, but we have 9 of those too.

The things we use frequently thus far:

    -boppy newborn lounger

    -boppy noggin nests

    -stroller for two car seats

    -Baby Bjorns

    -cloth diapers as burp rags

-we used RnP's to sleep in at night for 3 months

  • Thanks everyone!  We have TONS of burp cloths (DS1 was a spitter until 11m), I hope to BF but we have backup bottles, a swing and 2 bouncers, a Moby, Bjorn adn an Ergo, pnp, etc!

I need a DSNG and another boppy among a couple of smaller things.  I am going to look and see if I can find 2 used RnP's.  Those things sound amazing and I missed out with DS1!

Puppins - a cage for DS1!  Containing that kid would be a fullout war.  He goes everywhere but the kitchen and I'm really really nervous about him!  He's going to be in for a shock, my sweet boy.  :(

  • A lot of patience...and perhaps a lot of coffee to help get over sleepless nights.  Really though if you have one of everything now I wouldn't bother to get two until the babies arrive.  I found that one of my boys liked the swing the other didn't. I did have two bouncers because I used one downstairs and one up in their bathroom as a holding station for when I was bathing them alone (daddy worked late a lot).  So just think about how you might be using things in terms of putting them somewhere when you are alone.  Other than that I'd say get a lot of sheets and mattress pads for the cribs, the boys are 20 months and I still go through a ton in a week somethimes.  And a last little bit of advice (the best I recieved when I was pregnant) take LOTS of pictures.  The first year goes by so fast it's unreal.  Good luck and congrats!
