2nd Trimester

Cramping with no bleeding = m/c??

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and I had a mild cramping feeling for a few days on and off about a week ago. It was slightly uncomfortable. I have NOT had spotting or bleeding and the cramping has stopped. Could this mean M/C that just hasnt 'come out' yet. I am so scared of losing this baby. It is my first child. I keep reading these M/C stories and they break my heart. I have a dr appt tomorrow but no ultrasound is scheduled.. should i beg her for one to make sure the heart beat is still there? I don't know what to do.. someone please.. im terrified..

  • It might also just be your uterus growing and stretching, and things moving around in there to make room for it.  MandJS gives good advice.

All of this.  It is most likely just your uterus growing and stretching, cramping is very normal during pregnancy.

Drink more water, relax, and put your feet up. My guess is you WILL listen to baby's heartbeat via doppler. An u/s is not necessary. You are PROBABLY just dehydrated. Cramping is VERY normal.

All this. Just try to relax and drink water.

  • You could also just be constipated. I notice more cramping when I need to go.

ITA.  Sometimes my intestinal cramping feels a bit like period cramps (which for me tended to be intestinal cramping AND uterine cramping -- yay for hormones jacking up digestion, right?).  It usually resolves once I've had a successful bowel movement.

And as PPs suggested, dehydration can cause cramping, too.

This.  I find tea with lots of sugar, some popcorn, and a warm (not hot) bath get it moving for me.  I thought I was having a big issue earlier on, but I was impacted.  Which I guess is a big issue, too.  Think about the last time you went, any changes you've noticed, and if any doubt call the nurse's line.  It's literally what it's there for.

  • I have felt this too. Drinking more water really helped me and just resting whenever I felt it. For me when I sit up straight I would feel it more so I'd recline a bit. My midwife told me it's normal from 16-20 weeks you go through a growth spurt. And honestly, you should lay off the horror m/c stories. I've had enough losses and am terrified myself but dude, if you read those stories it won't do you any good! Just have some trust in God (if you believe in Him) and trust your body! I hope everything turns out well :)

  • Don't worry! Cramping is totally normal - I have had cramps on and off since I got my BFP. It is a combo of the uterus stretching and digestive issues (I am so much more gassy now than I ever was). I have also had the cramping but zero bleeding/spotting. They will listen to the HB via doppler so no worries there!

  • I went to doctor today with same issues and after hearing LO's heartbeat, she told me same things these ladies are telling you.  I am in the growth squirt period and I am not drinking nearly enough water.  She told me to shoot for 84 ounces daily. I may drown in all that water!

  • Oops, growth spurt not squirt!  Don't know if that was iPad or pregnancy brain!

  • I had a lot of cramping between 17-18 weeks.  My OB said it was likely things stretching out.  Everything has been fine for me, and as previous posters have said its really normal.  I am sure you are fine too.

I agree - probably just the changes occurring.  I've had this happen too.  Even though you don't have an ultrasound scheduled, your doctor will still probably listen to the baby's heartbeat.  Try to relax :)
