Two Under 2

Pain Question

This Saturday I will be 24 weeks and over the last few days I've been experiencing horrible, constant pain.  I would describe the pain as mostly in my joints (like an overdose of the relaxin hormone that softens to allow your hips to expand) and I feel like my pelvis is going to shatter with every movement.  I remember feeling this way when my son dropped (at 36 wks pregnant) but can't believe that's what's happening this early.  I've tried calling my doctor's office twice (yesterday they had an all-staff meeting and today their office closed at noon) so I haven't been able to verify that this is normal.  Has anyone else experienced something similar this early with their second pregnancy?  I'm nervous that I have another 16 weeks to endure this pain while running after an active toddler. Indifferent

Re: Pain Question

  • I had Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction with my 1st. I could barely walk and pick up things from the floor. I had to go on early maternity leave at 25 wks. What helped me was physical therapy (taping my back), massage and acupuncture. I don't want to scare you, but I used a walker for most of the rest of my pregnancy and a w/c at the end. A lot of pain, but it was totally worth it! I ended up getting pregnant 2 more times. And each pregnancy got better. Also, the TENS unit didn't work for me during pregnancy, but for some it does. (it was awesome during L&D, though)

I hope your pain goes away soon! I couldn't imagine chasing a toddler if I was in that much pain! I'm still having problems chasing my 2 without that.

  • Hopefully your dr calls soon! Have you tried a maternity support belt to see if it moves the pressure off your pelvis? I have had on/off sciatica that aggravates my hips for 2 out of 3 pregnancies and PT/massage was the best cure. I'm late in my third pregnancy and sore everywhere - I take baths in epsom salt every night and that helps too. For awhile the baby was sitting on a nerve and it felt like I pulled a groin muscle ... I wonder if you're experiencing something similar and baby just needs to move? Good luck!!
