My husband and I both love the name Avery for our daughter. Our family loves it and most people I mention it to think it's a good name, but anytime I read anything online about Avery, people think it's this terrible boy-only name? Just looking for some honest feedback!
Considering Avery Elaine or Avery Ellison as her middle name... both "E" names are family names. What's your preference?
Re: Thoughts on Avery?
I am probably a minority on TB that I think Avery goes better as a girl name. Too feminine sounding for a boy.
I like it.
I like Avery Elaine, it flows better.

I am not fond of using boy names for girls. When I was younger I lived across the street from a woman named Avery...she just gave me a bad impression of the name altogether.
Avery is mostly a boy name to me, but to be honest I don't like it on either. Just not attractive sounding imo.
Love Elaine though. That's what I would use as a middle name- with a name that's used on both boys and girls you want a middle name that clearly indicates sex, and Ellison doesn't do that.
I think of it as a girl's name. DH's cousin's daughter is 2 and her name is Avery Sophia. I think it's a really pretty girl's name. I don't know any boys named Avery & haven't seen any in the school where I work.

This is not a name I've heard a lot, but when I saw the post title on the board, my first reaction was that it was for a girl. I came to the board looking for ideas and thoughts on boy names, and I almost didn't read this one because I automatically assumed it was for a baby girl.
So, for me, I think it would be great on a girl and it is really pretty.
I've seen it equally on boys and girls all under 3. I think according to the name list it's leaning toward more girl. So I would think nothing of it.
I like Elaine much better as a mn.
I have an 18 year old boy cousin named Avery.
Once I got to college I met an Avarie, but that is probably more frowned upon here. but it does appear more feminine and it has grown on me some.
Edit: I think I prefer Elaine
