2nd tri exhaustion?

With my last pregnancy I remember having tons of energy in the 2nd trimester, this time around I'm EXHAUSTED - more so than I was during the first tri! I'm not a person who takes naps but the past three days I've sat down to rest my eyes while DS was napping and fallen asleep for at least 2 hours! I've been getting great sleep at night and exercising and eating right... what gives?

Anyone else not benefiting from the 2nd trimester energy?

Re: 2nd tri exhaustion?

  • I still feel tired. I keep being told I'll get a big rush of energy "soon" but it hasn't happened. I think every pregnancy and every person is different.

  • I'm still waiting for that burst of energy too!  I had it with DS but this time around I am still sooo tired!

  • I just told DH last night that I thought my first trimester exhaustion was coming back. This is my 4th time around, and I NEVER had this problem before. Maybe it has something to do with raising 3 kids, working full-time and being pregnant? lol
  • I don't sleep as much as I did 1st trimester, but I still don't have any energy.

  • 2nd tri energy is a bunch of hooey if you ask me.  I didn't experience it last time and I certainly haven't experienced it this time.  I'm feeling a little better just because I'm not as sick, but that doesn't equate to any extra energy necessarily. I'm tired all the time.

I think it's because when you're in your first pregnancy, no kids at home, you're not chasing around after anyone and you can sort of just sit and relax in the evenings. Having a 1 yr old at home makes me want to go to bed at 7:30 after I put her down. I'm so exhausted in the evenings.

  • I definitely have more energy than the first tri. I was going to bed at 8 pm! I've always been kind of a night owl (before getting PG) staying up til 11:30-midnight but now I can usually only make it to 10:30. As some other posters have said though, my energy comes & goes as well.

  • I've been told by multiple people this is the best time of the pregnancy.  If that is the case I'm screwed because I'm exhausted and still not feelign well.

  • Well, while I'm sorry all you ladies are tired too, I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

  • I am still exhausted as well. I am just told it is because I am a pregnant working Mom with 2 other kids but I am ready or some energy!

  • Yep. I type this from bed :) I came straight here after putting Ds down. My ILs are coming to dinner tonight and I don't care one bit about cooking or cleaninb...

  • I'm not exhausted but I'm also not full of energy. So much of it anyone seems to depend on how I sleep. DH has been gone all week so I've had the bed to myself and been sleeping like a rock so this week my energy has been great. I'll be at a conference next week and despite being busy with that I'm sure I'll sleep well since I'll have my own bed again. Lord help us when DH and I are in the same bed again!
  • I have my days where I have endless energy, but lately every day following those good days, I am exhausted. Today is one of those days where I could just sleep the entire day. I've found naps help, and foods high in protein. But really - everyone is just different.

  • I get tired around 3pm when I'm at work but get energy back once I get off work, and then get tired again around 7:30pm. I'm usually in bed by 10pm at the latest...sometimes even earlier. But I still have way more energy then I did in the 1st tri.

  • I'm totally exhausted every day- By 2-3pm I'm just about done. I think it is because this time I'm dealing with a toddler as well as being pregnant and working full time. I wish I had my energy...

  • I haven't so far. I just woke up from a four hour nap, but drowsiness is also a side effect of one of my anti-nausea meds. I feel like a zombie.

  • I am still exhausted! Barely staying awake at work and not wanting to do anything after work. I try and not nap after work just because it's so close to what time I should go to bed. But sometimes I just pass out Big Smile

  • I was just thinking this yesterday - I am not getting the 2nd tri energy that I was hoping for - and I remember the 2nd tri being much more energetic with my first pregnancy.  I think i can fall asleep sitting at my desk if I let myself...

  • I definitely had a 2nd tri boost with DD. This time around, I'm exhausted, but I'm pretty sure it's life circumstances, not the pregnancy. Or maybe the pregnancy is making it worse. But I'm not blaming it. :)

  • I have definitely noticed that I am still exhausted in the second trimester!! The other day I fell asleep at 7p.m and slept until the next morning when I had to wake up for work. That is definitely a new record for me.
