Evenflo Triumph Users - Help!

Last week we bought the Evenflo Triumph 65 dlx to use in our 2013 Hyundai Sonata. We installed it behind the passenger seat and it is terrible! From what I can tell everything is installed correctly but since the knobs to tighten the harness strap is on the side it is right up against the seat and I can't get it to tighten! After turning it a few times it won't turn anymore, even my husband tried.

Of course now I looked up some reviews and they said it was difficult to use while rear-facing because of this but for me it is impossible. Am I doing something wrong? Tonight I am going to try to put it in my Nissan Altima to see if it fits better, hopefully it will! If it doesn't fit in the Altima I am just going to take it back and get something else. Either way I am going to get something else for the Sonata. Ugh who knew this would be so difficult.

Any tips or suggestions would be great.

Re: Evenflo Triumph Users - Help!

  • We ordered one last week and it was delivered today. We are going to be putting it rear facing in DH's truck. I hope we don't have any issues.

  • We have the Evenflo Triumph also.  Yes, the knob is aginast the chair but have you looked at putting the seat in the middle?  I have absolutly no problems with it there and I have a Nissan Altima.  I don't know about the not turning, I've never had that problem.  We've been using it for 2-3 months now with no issues.

We are using it on the side because our center seat doesn't allow for us to use the LATCH system which we are much more comfortable using. This might be a stupid question (I'm sure it is) but is using the seatbelt just as safe as using LATCH? Neither car allows us to use the LATCH system in the middle.

  • we have a 2011 sonata and it *can* fit in the middle but you have to use the seat belt and not LATCH. be aware though that with the hump it's a bit difficult to get a good fit.

we don't have any issues getting the straps to tighten... did you try taking it out and seeing if it's a defect in the seat itself?

yes, it's just as safe and sometimes even safer because in some vehicles LATCH doesn't provide a tight enough installation.

  • DD will be 3YO next week and she has this seat and has been in it since she was 8 months old.  We have a Honda CR-V and while she was rear-facing we placed it in the middle position and had no problems.  A few months before DS was born we moved it to the passenger side of the car.  We just bought this seat for DS too although he's still in his infant seat.  Have you tried tightening the red knob on the "inside" instead of the one facing the door?  You only need to turn one or the other to tighten the straps.  If it just won't tighten to safely secure your LO, I would just take it back and let the store know its defective so they don't try to resell it.
