Converting a Cycle (IUI to IVF?)

Hi ladies, I regularly post on GP but since this is such a specific IF related question I thought I would maybe have some more opinions/experiences here?  Hope you don't mind me asking a question...

So I overstimmed last cycle, it would up cancelled.  It took forever for AF to show and I began a lower dose this cycle.  Well, I am stil producing alot of eggs (have 13 measurable ones on Day 8, the largest at 12 mm).  So the consulting dr in the u/s room told me that I may be a good candidate for IVF this cycle because of the cluster of eggs that have formed on boh ovaries.  He's going to speak to my RE about it and they will let me know if this will be a go or cancelled cycle.  I'm still pending my e2 level.

I wasn't expecting IVF so quickly so I have some thinking to do...has this happened to anyone?

Re: Converting a Cycle (IUI to IVF?)

  • Hi, this same thing almost happened to me.  My e2 was 1200+ and I had 7 nearly mature follicles.  I was given the choice to cancel or convert to IVF and I chose the latter.  I continued on my same dosage of Menopur + Gonal F + Ganirelix but two days later my e2 had plummetted to 140.  I upped my meds but two days later it was only 180.  I upped my meds again and two days later it was 400 so we did an IUI instead after all.

So that was my (very weird) experience.  I'm currently in the two week window.

    Good luck to you!

  • I haven't had this experience, but I would say if it is an option, and either your insurance will cover it or you can afford it, it might be a good idea.  It sounds like you're already doing the injects and monitoring, so the rest of IVF isn't too much more than that.  I just know for myself I would hate to lose another cycle- and it sounds like you're responding really well and probably have some good eggs in there.  Good luck!
