Wedding ring is officially stuck- help!!!

After two days of trying to get my wedding ring off my swollen finger, I am out of ideas. I have googled and tried everything to avoid having to get my ring cut off- the idea of getting it cut just breaks my heart- yes they can fuse it back together, but I just hate the idea of it. I tried soaking my finger in cold water, luke warm water, soap, aquaphor, olive oil, windex (don't ask), dental floss (pulling). I am out of ideas. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what worked for you? I went to get a mani/pedi two days ago and the manicurist was able to get off my engagement ring... one down one to go. Help!

  • I had to get my ring cut off when I was pregnant with my first son =(. When they saudered the bands together, it made the ring too tight, and I didn't realize it until it was too late, thanks to early pregnancy swelling.

I seriously cried when they cut it off. BUT.... they were able to resize it, and put it back together good as new. You can't tell that it was ever cut. So if nothing else works (and sorry, I don't have any ideas), just bite the bullet and get it cut off. But make sure you use a reputable jeweler and they will do great work getting it back together for you.

  • I used to work at a jewellery store....if soaking it in ice water for as long as you can take it and coating your finger in dish soap and have someone else try to slide it off doesn't work its probably not going to come off :( But they can be put back together and good as new!

I come from a long line of jewelers (my sister is 3rd generation).  You need to soak your hand in ice for as long as you can stand.  Then plant your elbow on a solid surface with your fingers straight in the air.  Try to work the ring off (use oil if you need).  If you can't get it off, go to a jeweler who is reputable (someone who has been around for a long time.  Check BBB).  They will cut it off.  Realistically, your rings will need to be cut to be resized anyway.  They will cut them, solder back together and polish so they look like brand new.  Don't stress.

  • Windex is the only thing I know to work.  I learned this while trying on wedding bands, when my jeweler assured me that it's ok to try on the smaller ones, he knows how to get them off if they get stuck.

I had to take mine off at 26 weeks and I miss them.  Sorry, I don't know of anything else.  Good luck.

  • I haven't been able to wear my wedding rings for a long time now :( My fingers got swollen pretty early. I miss wearing them :( Oh well.. not too much longer and they will be back on. It is worth it for the end result. Good luck in getting your ring off. I hope you can get it off without cutting it.

My rings were stuck and no amount of pulling or oil got them off. What did work was putting my hand in ice water for as long as I could. Then wrapping dental floss under the ring and wrapping it around my finger. Then holding my hand with fingers pointing up and spraying it with windex and then unwrapping the floss from the other end. I know you said you tried floss and windex but maybe the ice will help.

  • So sorry you're dealing with this. I was soooo close to getting mine off with all those different tricks but no luck. I got them cut off and I was so depressed about it. But I went to Kohl's and got a cheap ring in a larger size, and it was actually kindof fun to pick out a "fun" ring to wear instead of the traditional one that I have. The jeweler that cut mine off told me to wait 6 months before getting it re-sized because it can take that long for your hands to settle down. My hands were actually back to normal earlier than that but I went ahead and waited and when I got them put back together I was the same size as before. You absolutely cannot tell that they were ever cut and it was really special to get them back after a long absence.

Hopefully you get them off but if not, I hope this makes you feel better about getting them cut :)
