It is totally freaking me out! We have had an outbreak in our area and I found out someone at my baby shower had whooping cough!! Yikes!
Did you/Will you get a TDaP booster while pregnant or did you get it shortly after? Did you ask family and friends to get it before being around your babies? This has been discussed quite a bit on my BMB but just curious to hear your opinions!

Re: S/O Pertussis
So, I just asked my OB yesterday about that. This was her response, "You absolutely DO NOT get it while you are pregnant." She will give it to me as soon as the baby is born. Then, my own antibodies will transfer to the babies and will help defend them against it until they get it at 2 months. We can, however, get the flu shot pregnant and she recommended that because the baby can have that in their system and that will protect them for a year, until they get it at their annual!
I have asked my family (parents, sister, and her fiance) to get the whooping cough vac and they all said they will, without a problem! And when I talked about it with friend recently 2 volunteered to get it and one already did get it. I am only 12 weeks! I have good friends! =D
What I tell them, is this is becoming an epidemic and is spreading rapidly b/c most adults vacs are no longer effective, it's been too long since they've gotten them. It's a good idea for them too because there were almost 600K cases of adults with it last year, about 3400 babies, of about 100 deaths! It's a big deal!
My friend (and next door neighbor that we see frequently) doesn't get shots and refuses to vaccinate her children. That terrifies me and I don't want my kids hanging out with them for the first year. By 1, they will have all their vacs and then it's her kids that will be in danger, not mine!
DH is going to get his combo booster in the next few weeks, because he hasn't had any since childhood.
I have to check with my GP because I was given a tetanus booster two years ago, and I am not entirely sure whether it was a stand alone T booster, or the combo.
The girls are up to date, and will be required to wash up every time they get home from school or childcare or whatnot.

Heard back from my OB's office and they also said that they would not give it during pregnancy and it would be offered to me after the birth at the hospital. Geeze I want to pass this on to my BMB because those ladies were telling everyone and their mom to go get it immediately! Yikes! Thanks again for the input everyone!
I'm getting it while PG... I was supposed to get it today actually but my office ran out so I'll get it next appt.
Why are people being told to avoid it while PG? Curious....
My OB's office doesn't give it, but they said I could go to get it at Walgreens. Otherwise, I will get it in the hospital after the babies are born. DH has to call his dr and get it, I just reminded him again. My mom already called her dr about it and she and my dad have an appt. at the end of the month. I am not sure if my dad can get it though b/c of his health problems, but if he can, he will. My aunt has also said that she plans to get it. DH hasn't talked to his parents yet, but I have told him he has to. Getting him to call them is like pulling teeth sometimes!!
I am debating who else I should ask to get it? When they say if the person is going to be a frequent visitor are they talking weekly? Daily? I assume they don't mean monthly. I am most concerned about co-workers that may want to come visit as I work at a middle school and things go around like crazy. Obviously, they won't come often, so I can't really expect them to get it.

My OB gives it in pregnancy as long as you are 20+ weeks. It will take ~2 weeks after the injection to build immunity. DH got his before the babies came and i got mine on the postpartum unit. We only allowed our immediate family to visit for the first month. I sent out an email to our immediate families with info on the vaccine...my whole family (parents, sister, aunt, grandma) got the vaccine...but no in laws. DH's cousin is pregnant and due in December, so now I've been telling her how important it is...I'm hoping that will motivate the in-laws to get vaccinated.

I honestly don't know because I also heard it was safe in the late 2nd/3rd tri and it seems like the majority of my BMB was told to get it/has gotten it while pg. I guess since there are so many different opinions I'm just going to go with my OB's recommendation to have it done at the hospital after the births and cross my fingers that everything is ok for those two weeks it takes to kick in. I'm definitely having DH get his soon though!
If you trust your doctor, as I do mine, it's always better to listen to him/her
