TTC after 35

Charting question

Hi ladies,

So this is my first month charting, and I've got a few questions I was hoping you could help me with.

First, I seem to be getting some really low temps (less than 97 degrees).  Is that normal?

Second, I thought sleep problems and getting up to pee before taking your temp was supposed to mess it up (although I did read in "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" that might not be true for some women).  Well this morning, I got up around 5AM to pee and then couldn't get back to sleep (I have to get up around 6AM anyways).  I took my temp around 5:50AM and it was still only 97.1.  I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong?  The thermometer I have beeps until the temp is completed, but it is supposed to stop if you have it in the wrong place or if it moves.  It didn't give me any indication that I'm doing anything wrong.

If you're interested, see my chart from FF below.

Thanks for your help!

Melissa

Re: Charting question

  • If I got up to pee an hour or so before taking my temp, it really didn't affect it much.  But if I took my temp an hour early or late, there was a difference.

You won't know what's normal for you until you have a couple cycles under your belt.  And your temps seem normal to me...you can always make notes if you think something may have affect your temp on a ceertain day.  Eventually you'll start to recognize your personal patterns.  GL!

  • "Normal" is different for everyone, you really do need a couple of cycles of charting to know what is normal for you.  My baseline temps pre O are always very low, in the 96's, and in the mid-97's post O.

  • I agree w/ pps. Pre-O temps are low, and as you chart more, you'll get a sense of what is normal for you.

My pre-O temps vary between high 96s through high 97s. And my post-O temps vary from 98s to 99s.

When it comes to charting, it's more about the pattern and the trend than it is about the exact numbers (for the most part)...

  • I agree with the other ladies about it taking a few cycles before you find out what's normal for you.  My temp has always been around 97.0 so that's normal to me.
Me 39 & suspected PCOS, DH 42. Went off BCP when we got married in 11/11, seriously TTC since 3/12.  Six cycles of clomid = BFNs.  Suspected endometriosis & HSG showed both tubes blocked.  Sept 2013 IVF 5D transfer of two perfect embryos = BFN.  Started acupuncture and taking time off to drop some pounds & get healthier before FET in April 2014.
  •  I get up and pee in the middle of the night all the time... sometimes an hour before I temp... I haven't seen that it messes with my Temps so far...

     Good luck!

  • Whew!  Thanks ladies...it's good to know that this looks normal.  I'm guessing the higher temps at the start of my cycle were from some leftover progesterone or something, cause that was also kind of weird.  We'll see how things look after I O then, hopefully I'll be able to see a pattern.  Thanks again!

It's common to get wonky temps during AF.  I got to where I just skipped the 1st few days of my cycle.

  • Good to know that as well!  Maybe I will just skip the first few days of my next cycle too.  Well...let's hope I don't have to worry about a "next cycle".  :)
