Arcuate uterus (Heart shaped)

Does anyone have experience with this type of abnormality? My Dr. mentioned it yesterday during my u/s and said it needs to be monitored so I don't any issues with Pre-term Labour.

I really wanted to use a midwife, but now I'm nervous. Any insight would be appreciated.

Re: Arcuate uterus (Heart shaped)

  • No experience, but my friend has a uterus like that, and went full term with no complications.

How did the rest of your ultrasound go?  Did you see the heartbeat?  :)

Sorry, I updated in the ticker change... No heartbeat yet, Dr. said too early. He figured that I could be due as late as April 1st, instead of March 28th like my O date calculated, which would only put me at 5w 5d today. We did see the sack and a yolk sack and Dr. was happy with that. We go back next Sunday, the 12th for another one in which we should definitely see the hb by then (7w and a bit).

I'm going to wait until that u/s to confirm edd at April 1st and then consider it "real".

  • I also have a heart shaped uterus.  I was able to carry DD full term with no complications, however I was monitored very closely.  I had ultrasounds every other week to check my cervical length and was told to be very careful how active I was.  I drank tons of water all the time.  I did have braxton hicks contractions pretty early which made me nervous but everything turned out just fine! Good luck!

  • I have a heart shaped uterus, but I was told it was bicornuate.  I was monitored very, very closely, and I did have pre-term labor at 30 weeks.  I was on bed rest for the remainder of my pg when DD was born via scheduled c/s at 39 weeks.

  • You could look for a practice that has midwives operating out of a hospital - just make sure they have OBs on staff in case of complications.  And make sure that they monitor this very closely.  While I don't have any known complications at the moment, we chose a practice like that and are very comforted with the knowledge that all the doctors and facilities are there if we were to need them.
