I have a 9 week old baby and we have bed shared for the past 7 weeks. I don't mind the middle of the night feedings so much, but right now I am going to bed with the baby every night around 9pm and I am getting tired of it. I feel like he needs to go to bed earlier, but I also don't know how to get him down without me. If you bed-share, do you go to sleep when your baby goes down for the night? If not, what do you do? Do you put your baby in your bed and join him/her later, or put them in a crib to start the night?
I am also thinking about side-caring the crib to our bed to try putting him down in that for the first part of the night. Right now he likes to sleep right (and I mean RIGHT) next to me, so I'm not sure if that will work. I guess we need to start working on new things - like going to sleep without mommy right there and how to sleep at night without mommy next to him. He takes naps during the day in his swing just fine.
Re: Tell me about how you co-sleep and/or bed-share
When he was little, he just slept in the living room with us in his bouncer or swing. I'd bring him to bed with me when I went to bed, or DH would bring him in when DS needed feeding and then I'd keep him.
Honestly, "working on new things" with a 2-3 month old is likely to end in misery for everyone. Do what works. A baby doesn't really have the capacity to form habits until somewhere in the 4-6 month range. We went to him starting the night in the crib around 6 months, and it went fine.

DS falls asleep in the living room most nights and I carry him to my bed. I join him at the end of my night once I put DD to bed and finish up my chores.
I used to put him to sleep in his crib and then he would come to my bed for the other half of the night when he woke up around 3 or 4am.
DD on the other hand sleeps in her crib (I worry about co-sleeping with both). Around 5am when I've had enough I bring her to my bed (we lay across the bottom as to not disturb DS) for about an hour then I put her in her own crib.
I think I am going to have to try this. If I keep him with us watching TV he will fall asleep but wake up a lot, so I don't feel like it's good sleep. I think I will try lying down with him tonight but earlier and then sneak away when he's down.
